Hi I'm a -- Ad Campaign of the Decade

"The genius is in the casting. The Mac guy, Justin Long, is a younger version of Steve Jobs who is casual and comfortable in his skin. PC, personified by John Hodgman, as a rounder, paler Bill Gates, is a well-meaning geek with all kinds of operating problems. For Apple, the campaign managed the neat trick of making the brand look laid back and cool while it mercilessly skewered its rival.”

    • What's amazing is that nobody but Steve Jobs has ever had great success at selling UNIX to a mostly computer illiterate user base.

Today, UNIX generally refers to operating systems that conform to UNIX standards. For all practical purposes, I referred to it as UNIX as it is a UNIX based operating system that is UNIX 03 certified, and looks like UNIX, smells like UNIX, and so on.

    • One of the most boring ads I have ever seen. A hipster talking to an overweight version of "the man". I can imagine Steve Jobs tripping on acid and writing this commercial right now.

    • The DECADE? Really?

I enjoy this ad campaign, but wish it didn't serve to amplify the whole "Mac Vs. PC mentality that exists today. You see people fighting on the internet about who has the better computer... I think its so pathetic.... there are so many more important things to align yourself with these days than a BRAND OF COMPUTER. So lame.

I have owned Macs AND PC's in the past and I personally enjoy using BOTH operating systems. And... I live in a.... MIXED OS HOUSEHOLD! I have a mac, the man of the house has a PC, and... we feel that we our twice blessed! We use and understand eachother's operating systems as if they were our own, and someday, our kids will celebrate the joys of downloading their holiday music onto iTunes AND Windows Media Player... :)

    • I enjoy the mac adds,....I find them oddly pleasant and soothing. (And at least its not some damn
pharmaceutical company hawking anti-anxiety snake-oil while warning me of the unexpected aneurysms that may occur as side effects).
A computer crash doesnt make your head explode!---------usually.

    • I much prefer the navigation of a mac to windows, however i do hate apple, they are probably one of the most obnoxious companies, whose adverts make them sound like they want to/already have had sex with their products.

    • While these commercials are pretty entertaining, what about the Geico ads? Didn't the cavemen pop up in 2004? Or am I the only soul who finds them worth mentioning?

    • Not only have i enjoyed these ads, but I began this decade using Microsoft-Windows ran computers, and now have a MacBook. I still have the laptop which began with Windows software, but had a friend (computer science major) help me reprogram it with the Linux system Kubuntu. Microsoft-Windows has failed this decade.

    • Yeah its a great campaign...you insult the target demographic you want to make in roads to.

I would own a mac but since I not an idiot and like to fix and modify computers, I guess it will never happen. I really don't understand why any person would prefer them. The argument that they don't get as many viruses is a silly one. By that logic, a comodore 64 would be the best system on the planet.

    • I can't stand advertising in general, and these ads are especially obnoxious. These ads are a big part of the reason I boycott apple products.
