In the wake of the New York Times announcing that it will begin charging users next year, the Guardian's Mercedes Bunz makes an intriguing argument for publishers to sell content via iTunes. She argues that Apple's hassle-free payment system is the only way forward. She also includes this thought-provoking idea:

"Selling journalism via a store might change how we look at journalism, perhaps increasing the importance of distinctive and deep material, as well as the bang up-to-date."

That's a bold statement. Can Apple save the newspaper industry and quality journalism?

    • I think the real problem with modern journalism is that the vast majority of it is being filtered by multi-national corporations. Can Apple save journalism? Can a tidal wave protect coastal inhabitants from flooding?
