    • One thing you guys are missing, is the possibility of cloud hard drives where you can access everything from your laptop or desktop and edit on this on the go, then when you get home it is updated on your home hard drive.

The biggest question will be the evolution of 3rd party App's created. This is going to run on iPhone OS 4, the question is will developers step up to the plate and create full powered apps. Look how long it took iPhone apps to get to the App Store.

Also the one thing that no one is talking about is the rumor that they are going to allow free 3G on this device for iTunes and App Store, don;t know if it;s true, but that would make these things sell, the start of free internet.

    • Why do some people feel the need to bash apple? These are always the people that still have a dell brick computer that sounds like a blowdryer when in use and there only contact with true tech came when there co-worker asked them to hold there i-phone while lighting a cigarette on break. Innovation is what makes the world go 'round, would you rather we stop all innovation and just stuck with what we have to suit your comfort level b/c some of u guys are scared of change? so quit using windows 98 and surfing on netscape and join the 21st century....hey apple, way to innovate.... .... .... again!!

Apple is overpriced and not as advanced as the Mac fanboys think. I built my machine for less than one tenth a Mac would have cost me. It runs faster and is more visually appealing that OSX, and it's incredibly secure. Nope, not Windows...

Also, Apple intentional limits the production of replacement parts so that it maintains a monopoly on repairs. The only reason people are forced to make appointments with an apple store, to get even the most mundane thing fixed, is because Apple intentionally does so to get more money out of its customers.

      Are you talking about Ubuntu?

I mean, yeah, I like it too -- but you can't deny that you can't run iTunes on it.

Let's just be realistic. iTunes radically changed the way music and media was bought and distributed. The interface for iTunes is simple and powerful.

Why not give credit where credit is due?

For better or worse they really did make a radical improvement. the iPod and iTunes and the App Store were game-changers. The App Store! C'mon, that was a pretty impressive idea.

I don't use iTunes because iTunes uses (or used, perhaps they've stopped) DRM. I use Ubuntu as well as other Linux distributions, but have no problem syncing my iPod using Amarok with music that I've downloaded from other locations on the web.

    • Okay, we can all agree that Apple doesn’t put out super high quality hardware like you find in Acer laptops.

Oh waitaminute. Acer is cheap junk.

Okay, but we can all agree that Apple OS is not as rock solid as Windows Vista!

Oh waitaminute. Vista is a total piece of shit.

So what were the Windows fanboys saying about Apple that we should take seriously?

Oh! They were talking about how Microsoft is always on the cutting edge and inventing new tech!

Waitaminute….nope. Microsoft only copies Apple after apple innovates and creates new industry standards.

Just pointing out how silly it is to call Apple products and hardware "junk" when the opposite is true. Their hardware is very high end and their OS is far more advanced then the Windows OS.

Is it as great as some other products? Maybe not, but definitely better than Windows Vista or a $200 Acer laptop you buy at Wal-mart.

    • The real digital revolution is going to be that magazines and newspapers will be downloadable from iTunes.

Newspapers are dying because of overhead. Same with magazines.

Once they cut deals with apple to distribute through iTunes the price will be cut in half for cunsumers and the publishers will finally be able to make a profit again.

And we will no longer have landfills stuffed with 20 metric tons of old People magazines!

This is going to be a real revolution, I think.

The tablet itself isn't that much a "breakthrough" but the iTunes store and digitizing magazins will be a huge leap forward.

All our information filtered through one source, disseminated by screens, and controlled by one company? Wasn't there a book already written about this? As I recall it didn't turn out too well.

So every single podcast on iTunes is created by Apple?

Every single song is written and sold by Apple?

I don't think we are quite ready to equate Apple's iTunes store with 1984 just yet.

I'm not implying that Apple is manufacturing information, just that it's a frightening thought that people might get their information exclusively from iTunes (or any source). The media are already owned, for the most part, by a small group of people.

    • I think we're missing the point here.

This is a web browser, e-reader and mini computer.

This is the same problem people had with the iPhone in that they couldn't understand why people would want an iPhone if they already had a cellphone and a laptop! Well....as we can see the iPhone pretty much merged the two and people are very, very happy with the poduct.

Now if this is going to be an eReader that allows you to purchase magazines (like People or Utne) through iTunes....then you wouldn't want to read those magazine on your cramped iPhone screen, would you?

The entire point of creating a bigger screen is to make watching movies and reading downloaded magazines (which you KNOW is the next step in iTunes) easier to see.

Would you rather watch movies and read a magazine on your iPhone screen or on a tablet?

This isn't intended to replace laptops for everyone....just for people who don't don't a lot of "work" on laptops and use it mostly for browsing the web and sending email and watching movies.

I think its a brilliant idea.

    • In my opinion this will be no where near the sales of Amazons ereader because of the price. Rumored at $1000, not worth it. Especially when there are great deals for under $300.

    • So rather than develop better programing to allow the I-Phone to do the same damn thing, Apple will once again get legions of sheep to purchase another product that is completely unnecessary (such as the I-pod touch which is basically a smart phone that can't make calls). I personally love how apple intentionally limits the production of replacement parts for their systems so as to ensure the sheep have to jump through expensive hoops to get their crap fixed. Few companies embrace intentionally designed obsolesces and throw away culture quite like Apple.

its green and have you heard of selling things? -> not really throwing them away is it. And really your gonna have a go at Apple when nearly all companies do a similar thing. End of the day it's the consumer's choice as to if they want to but the product.

    • this thing have better cost a few hundred at the very most...otherwise why would anyone buy this when they could have a laptop with much, much better specs...I hope this thing is worth all the hype it has drawn otherwise i predict a flop and sped up release for the iphone 4g which would be awesome.

I've heard a price of $600-800. I don't think it will flop, 1) because there are a lot of apple fans out there and 2) they have spent a long time planning this tablet (aka iSlate).

I believe they have already set some estimate of release date for the iPhone v4.
