Small turbines inside of airshafts or run-off drains would be attached to a battery array for electricity. If there was enough space, a hand or foot-crank would serve for indoor exercise and would also contribute to power.

Those are some warm and welcoming shelters. I like em! I am curious as to how well they deal with earth tremors when compared to other types of structures. They LOOK to be quite stable,....and that wrap around inner frame seems as though it would have some "flex" to it. Kewl.

I have seen some Earthships up close , they are very good designs , but time consuming and comparatively expensive . Great respect for the designs , especially the indoor garden parts and the roof/ceiling water filtration to cistern - brilliant !

I have a great book that teaches Earth Bag Building. I have been trying to interest people in this stile of construction. A bit labor intensive; one coffee can of dirt at a time. I'm so ready to build one right now, just need $$$.

Yes, as practical as this is maybe it's an answer to replacing tent cities - even providing shelter in Haiti. Relatively inexpensive to construct but sure someone would eventually apply property taxes, permits etc. ;-)
This could solve a lot of problems if we could keep greedy people out. The tubes are made of what? Didn't catch that on the video.

I would have an outdoor hot tub heated with something like this , Also solving the compost/sewage problem . A pipe could run into the house , so you would have hot water inside as well , draining it into a cistern for the garden .
