Facebook has always been the best way to keep in touch with family and friends. The problem with the new Facebook is that many of the privacy settings that could be fine tuned have been removed. One must also be careful not to like too many posts, as these will be sent to all friends, not in the form of a link, but as the original post.(HUGE!) When using apps and collecting items, such as in Farmville, these like links will really annoy the user. It would be best if apps could be kept separate from Facebook, but there has to be income to keep things going. Advertising only pays so much. I had to change my profile picture just this morning so my face wouldn't continue being splashed across the screens of complete strangers because someone liked a post. I won't be deleting my account, but I might start Facebooking a little less.

designer social page naw, but vast international neighborhoods should be spartan. apps i think are an attempt to create linked time to facebook for statistics. hiding people, naw, they are still black coated shadowy truckers along the berm, just behing the gardrail. hm, whaaa, where'd that deer come from..damn missed my evening dosage.

As soon as I saw the new Facebook layout I really liked it, because it just seemed easier to use for the most part. I think people just really love to complain. I mean, if they were really pissed why do they still use it? That is what I think at least.
You know, one of my Facebook failures was starting to play Farmville. That game must run on some server in hell. It is too damn addicting! Damn my friends for always sending me Farmville requests till I caved in and started playing!

just got around to checking out video.. my apologies in advance .
i have similar complaints with fb, such as the feeling of being logged into a stranger's account, i can agree with that .
luckily my friend mubix, and other's have some grease monkey scripts to clear that up.but i do agree that they did an improvement to the recent layout overall even if it is mostly cosmetic...
since now adayz i rarely jump online via a normal computer, most of the time its from my phone...lol
toodles..

Sarah Lane, like THE Sarah Lane? Very cool, knew you moved on to a different media venture, but wasn't aware it was Current. A pleasant surprise to say the least.
On to the topic at hand I'm digging the new Facebook layout. I definitely noticed it was the cool thing to bash it the minute it arrived but have noticed how much easier it makes certain things, esp messages and requests.
Now if I could just get Facebook to not make it seem like I'm flirting with every female friend I leave a snarky comment for, that'd be great. Well, except the ones I AM trying to poke.

I guess the new layout is fine. It's always weird when it changes, but it takes a week or two to get used to it, and then it's fine. Seriously, there's nothing to be mad about.

Oh. I GET WHY PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE NEW LAYOUT. Since everything moved from the bottom to the top, everyone's been scrolling a lot just to p[lay with the apps and crap...
Solution: STOP PLAYING THE STUPID APPS AND GAMES. Seriously, there's better things to do on Facebook (and in your life I hope) than sit around and wait for your crops to grow.
I never used Facebook chat. It sucks to begin with.
I'm honestly neutral to every single change that Facebook has made (other than privacy settings and how my wall feed gets clogged with everything that I personally do). We're human. We can adapt easily to change... otherwise none of us would be here using a computer, now would we?

I like it. It's much easier to navigate through. Though I do like it, huge changes are not always the best approach.

The new Facebook layout is NOT user friendly in the least!!! What's the deal with putting everything at the top of the screen??? & now my pick five app no longer works! & I get asked all sorts of dumb questions if I even try to upload new pics (which I have to do from what they call the old up loader, but it's not!!!) What Facebook really needs is a hell of a lot more stuff that users can customize to their needs! There are a few things people are asking for (& they keep complaining here about!!!) that would be completely pointless! There are people of course who will like or hate ANYTHING no matter what it is!!! EVERYONE I've talked with around where I live absolutely HATES the new Facebook layout & they could give you a list of about a thousand reasons why! I am simply pissed off about them messing with some of my apps! I have a few apps I put on my Facebook that up until now,I was actually using as a way to draw people to my music & art project! I had some weekly stuff I would do that a HUGE group of people would pay close attention to,to see my new inspirations & what not! Facebook is also posting all the stuff I watch on Youtube even though I told them 10 times now that if I want people to see videos,I'll post the video (which I now can't do because the music & video feature no longer works!!!) I also haven't been able to do a web cam video since the last time they did updates! If someone can find some way to get a hack code that switches settings to the last changes ,you'd be my new hero! Some people could care less about sites like Facebook & there are some social networks, like Twitter, that I will never understand, but there are a few social networks that I use to promote myself these days in a world where music television doesn't exist & people don't buy music! I have been able to promote things I do pretty well with a few social networks & I have become well known for some art & photo editing I've done! Facebook is really a family & friend sort of network,& I use it as that plus the music & art stuff I mentioned! When pretty much all my family & friends have something they hate about the new layout & people I work with on art & music stuff are complaining, there are some problems!!! People will leave comments on new drawings & photo edits I've done, but Facebook went & moved all the comments onto a sub page, which although isn't a major problem,it is confusing ,random & completely unneeded ! I also haven't been able to access any of the Facebook groups I am part of since the updates! Those groups are ways for me to stay informed on a few things & for me to tell a few people what I am up to! It seems Facebook is falling into this twitteresque sorta thing which totally sucks! FACEBOOK ! MORE LIKE MYSPACE & LESS OF THIS TWITTER CRAP!!! PLEASE!!!

The new layout is ridiculous. Not only is it nearly impossible to find friends' postings, in the Mafia Wars application, scrolling has become an exercise in spasticity, like trying to put toothpaste back into a tube. It seems there is a new caste of Internet Design Boneheads who travel from site to site, making each one a little worse than it was before. Somebody get them employment elsewhere!

I disagree. It had the same number counts with friend requests and notifications before the change. And it's harder for me to find my applications, not to mention that I have no idea how to delete applications nows, or the fact that it took me 5 days to figure out where to go to log out.
Annnd I still can't figure out how to bring up my friends lists so that I can see everyone and delete people.

I agree that Facebook should optimize user control over what one can do with their friends. I know people who are friends only with people they talk to constantly, and some people who friend people frivolously, but both people generally want the same ends. To know of events to attend, what their friends are doing, and to not have to deal with information about people in their feed that they're friends with just to be cordial, or something of the like. I remember facebook used to offer more control over news feed content, and maybe I simply haven't found these controls, but I don't like only having the option to block all content of specific individuals.
Also, dislike buttons.
Also, I don't know why the news feed is the default homepage information over live feed. Because news feed is what gets filled with information about people I don't want to know. I've read that Facebook should intuitively show information it thinks you would find relevant based on what friends you stalk up on and the like, but I find it mostly trying to eat away at my feelings. A little more empowerment would be nice. - 1 year ago

Unfortunately, I have a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator of INTP. So I do not gain a lot of energy nor am I charged by Facebook. This should probably be a post by itself, but is the value added to the Facebook silo worth the volume of my personal information I am losing for Mark Z's lack of interest in protecting my privacy over a business protecting a business model?

I have to say that I'm overall pretty happy with the changes. The layout now looks like somebody at Facebook was actually using their own tool instead of just forcing it on the masses. I do however think that there is still room for improvement, especially with the stupid 'poke' feature. (Totally agree with Sarah here). What the eff is the point of 'poking' somebody?! There is a messaging feature, and a chat feature as well. Use those and quit making me click on 30 links every time I log in to my account to make it stop harassing me. I also think they need to start refining the friend suggestions, just a thought.

My biggest peeve is that previously, I could avoid the Live Feed with Friend lists that I had created. So, instead of automatically starting at the Live Feed, my Home page would automatically populate with a friends list of my choosing (whichever was at the top of the list). Now, I have to dig in to Facebook more to see what I want to see. That is no small issue to me. I don't like spending 30 minutes catching up with people who are my acquaintances when I intended to catch up with folks that are nearer and dearer.
That being said - I understand the method to their madness. That doesn't mean I have to like it! :o)

What people fail to realize when they join groups and say stuff about changing facebook are 1) try it out throughly before complaining and 2) it's a free service that is not a requirement to join (always can deactivate account)

I'm still not convinced. As a web design professional, I am against any site that takes away functionality for no good reason. It takes too many clicks ot get to things that were alwasy one click away before. That's crap.

Poor Sarah, you just have too many people that want to be your friend.
Proprietary social networks are still a pain for me, I just don't like the idea of something 'owning' my interactions. Isn't the Internet an open platform? Cannot standards and protocols be implemented for the purpose of a 'social network'? Such a phenomenon would lead to an array of access and management methods and wouldn't have one fat company gimping it for the rest of the world. The Internet was designed with a uniform standard of identifiers, they should be used. Such a standard wouldn't be hard to develop, but Facebook would fight them to the very end. Having something open is great for the user, but it kinda shoves a stick in the works when it comes to having giant monopolies and making boatloads of cash. Once you're in a certain social network it becomes a mammoth task to switch to a new one. - you are sucked in.
I hope that made a bit of sense.
btw, your hair looks great Sarah :)
