Threadsy's Social Circle - Too Little, Too Much, or Just Right?

sarahlane
It's official: social networks are eating our brains. Or at least the act of checking them all regularly is. That's why a service called Threadsy could help you save some time by accessing the Big Three (email, Facebook and Twitter) in one fell swoop. But it's not without its problems, which I cover in this Current Tech video.

Links I mention:
Threadsy: http://threadsy.com (still in private beta)

Here's a link to 10 Threadsy invites, be quick and grab one if you're interested!

    • I've been using it for a week now & I like it, very convenient and I'm finally checking the email that I have neglected for the last year or so. What are the other social/email solutions used out there?

    • Hmmm, I WOULDN'T mind having all of my emails, tweets, and Status Updates in one place. But if you're not completely sold on it, I'm not too sure I would be either.

And well done on the views.

    • I am checking it out and it’s cool and all. I like the way it looks and I actually like having all my e-mail accounts in one place so that’s convenient. It would be cool if it could connect to other sites besides twitter and facebook, but then again with 3 e-mails, facebook, and twitter…it was already breathing heavy and taking forever to load. I don’t know if it could handle much more.

    • I'm with you - it's a nice enough site but it won't be something I go back to daily. It only checks the three big ones and I'm happy enough checking those one by one myself.

I actually prefer doing that. I'm really familiar with their layout, they seem safer (I don't like signing up to services like these and then having to delete their marketing auto-messages out of my Twitter and Facebook posts), plus I have broadband so it's not like I save massive amounts of time by aggregating them all into one.

The real strength of sites like Threadsy though aren't how much time they save you - it's how they disguise sites for people at work who can't get away with looking at Facebook, Twitter and email lots. The site needs to amend it's settings soon so people can reskin it and stop pictures/avatars showing. The more boring people can make it look, the more they can use it at work or uni when they shouldn't be, and the more Threadsy gets used.

That's why I think Meebo.com has really taken off. There's loads of people using it to chat when they shouldn't really be on computers that won't let them download Instant Messengers.

Good point Rich, I hadn't really thought of the whole "I'm checking FB but can't have my boss knowing" angle. I guess I'm lucky to have to do that stuff for a living! :)

    • Another cool video, Sarah. But since you started on Current Tech your videos tend to be all about social networking and related webapps. Don't get me wrong, I love watching them! But it would be nice to see you branch out to show off other things in this great big world of Tech. I'm not suggesting you go all out on the repartitioning and updating of the kernels, but it would be nice to see you try out some new areas. Go outside your tech comfort zone! In any case, keep the great videos coming.
