AMD and Intel have been battling for the notebook CPU market for years. Now that battle has moved from mainstream 15-inch laptops into affordable ultraportables. To determine which CPU is best for your needs, we tested the $699 T135-S1310 (1.3-GHz Intel Pentium SU4100 with integrated graphics) and the $599 T135D-S1324 (1.6-GHz AMD Turion Neo X2 L625 with discrete graphics) to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each platform. Does AMD have what it takes to take down the champ? Is Intel worth the $100 premium?

We tested CPU Performance, Graphics, Battery Life, Wi-Fi and Greenness to see which chip came out on top.

    • Intel all the way. AMD chips seem nice enough, but the Front Side Bus on AMD compatible motherboards bottlenecks if you're going to really push your machine, say for audio recording. To get a chip compatible with a motherboard that has a sufficient FSB you'd end up paying more than you would with Intel. For a cheap build on a basic internet browsing/word processing machine, AMDs are good enough.
