I was surprised to see Leah's post (http://current.com/items/92228460_saying-goodbye-to-current-and-hello-to-the-nex...) about her leaving, in which she says
"Current announced it's new direction: and will discontinue all original online content that isn't affiliated with their franchise shows."
This left a lot of questions open to me and maybe the rest of the community. What other sections will be disappearing? What will replace them? What franchise shows will have online counterparts? Does the discontinuation of online content apply to community members as well, and will the television station still be playing user created content? Is there a post that deals with this already?
I was hoping staff could fill us in and users could get their voice heard...so What's going on, Current.com?

Ditto. I used to be involved here. It used to feel like were were all taking part in a global journalism project.
Now it's just bullshit being fed to us by the staff. Fuck that. We're conscious producers of media, not passive consumers.

Don't know if its appropriate to say, but who exactly has been laid off? A list would be nice!

Its kind of sad how 4 out of the 6 Featured Stories are from the Staff... Nobody gives a damn about those "stories."

@mario Thanks for the quick response!
So Tech, Movies and Green are getting their online producers booted in favor of TV producers basically? What about news/comedy/art etc; will they have TV shows as well or are they still having online producers? Any other changes going down?

Right now there are no plans for the news/comedy/art channels to have TV show counterparts specifically, but that doesn't mean that they are going away entirely. Our team is being re-structured in preparation for things to come.
You guys have all been pretty patient about the changes to the site/network, and I appreciate that, but there is still much to reconcile before we're ready for the full unveil. Please know that we will post details, explanations, and more when the time comes.

I agree. Anyone going to pretend we're stakeholders in the discussion or are we, your online community just here as fluffers?

Hardly. I think the important thing to consider here is that Current has traditionally struggled to be all things to all people, but that just isn't doable in some respects.
What will come down the road will address some of this, and we're looking forward to sharing it with you when the time comes.

@DeliaTheArtist -- thanks for reaching out about this. Specifically we've discontinued production on original web-only video content produced by our online team for Current.com. This doesn't mean that Green, Movies, or Tech will be removed from the site as a way to find and browse content.
We would still love to see community submitted stories around these subject areas, and going forward any video produced for Tech, Green, or Movies will come from our in-house production teams on Current TV.
Hope this helps clarify things!

Well, I know that if you remove viewer created content, then Current TV is just another channel. The ability for independent filmmakers to get stuff on TV is the only thing that makes Current exciting and unique. Without that aspect, Current is just Public Access without the public access.

You just basically said no more user created content. But I might have just interpreted it wrong... maybe....

also @Dylan_Krider and @asherp -- No, no, no. I apologize for the misunderstanding. User generated video will always be welcome on Current.com. The distinction here is that we had people on the online team producing video for some of our online channels. We are no longer supporting this, and all of our internally produced video content will come from our TV production teams. All user created video would be in addition to what we produce internally. Sorry for the confusion!
