The highly anticipated plan will make a series of recommendations to Congress and is aimed at spurring the ever-changing communications industry to bring more and faster online services to Americans as they increasingly turn to the Internet to communicate, pay monthly bills, make travel plans and be entertained by movies and music.

Most excellent !!! And about fucking time too. I have Road Runner
which has always been trying to promote their turbo for extra money.
Bullshit. It would still be slow, though not as slow as now. On my Gmail
page it spells it out plainly " loading HTML for slow connections " I c
checked out a fan club site originating from Canada, and that site
also spelled it out plainly. They had 2 categories: one for fast and one
for slow internet. I blogged an article from Current.com from 2009
which showed that much of the world's Internet traffic bypasses the
USA as if we were some 3rd world country. That's all too plain. We
need less Monopoly and ultra fast internet, especialy here in the USA.
If you have to wait more than 1 second to load something DUH ! IT'S SLOW ! - 1 year ago

I am actually excited about this one. I hear that the Dutch have the fastest broadband speeds in the world? I hope we can compete with them

Unfortunately, we won't be able to compete with them. Many other countries already have what we're proposing to have in the next 10 years. By then, who knows what they will have.
Also, it just goes to show how far behind we are by the simple fact that we needed a damn act of government to make it happen. Those other countries are simply doing it on their own terms.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to have faster internet too. It's just pretty lame that one of the most advanced countries in the world would rather make a profit off the citizens by selling them old technology than take a step into the future. I think the average broadband speed in the U.S. is something like 5mbps? That's laughable in other parts of the world where the average is already closer to 100mbps, and some parts of Japan and Korea even have 1gbps connections.
