What do you think about the Digital Economy Bill?

Cory Doctorow talks about a leaked memo by the UK record industry which is said to claim that the Digital Economy Bill will pass through Parliament because "MPs were "resigned" that they wouldn't have a chance to debate it properly.".

On Boing Boing he highlights 38 Degrees campaign asking UK voters, who are concerned over the implications the Digital Economy Bill, to write to their MP (through a draft letter) which highlights that the bill needs to be debated and scrutinized by the Government.

"The law is controversial and contains many measures that concern me. The controversial Bill deserves proper scrutiny so please don't let the government rush it through. Many people think it will damage schools and businesses as well as innocent people who rely on the internet because it will allow the Government to disconnect people it suspects of copyright infringement."

It was also reported by the Guardian yesterday that the Liberal Democrats were changing an amendment to the digital economy bill "The change would give sites blocked under the bill the power to challenge it in the courts, and to demand legal costs and damages". However some groups say this will not solve the problems that exist within the bill.
