Not surprising. Glad for the documentation, but we should be behaving accordingly already.

After facebook was first made available in 2004 to select college campuses, I remember Pepperdine teetotalers using student profiles to prosecute them for underage drinking & drinking on campus.

That, and the idea of potential employers snooping, and now the FBI make me glad my profile is LOCKED shut!

Corporations have been doing this for a long time to review potential employees.

Woah!!! Fake Profiles? Most of us uses aliases or a.k.a for getting important information even pen names in joining Poetry Contest. that was to secure the lives of many people rather than risking the lives of those people around the place where FBI Agents are residing if there becomes a raid due to syndicates that are being found inside the web.

this has been going on since the beginning of myspace. this isn't news. also does anybody really think that everything people post online is legit? and why would anyone put anythin incriminating on free-for-all sites like those anyway?

This has been going on for a while.

Last year a friend of mine found out thru his job with the local police, that three girls on facebook were actually fake accounts set up to find plans for house parties around the campus.

can I just say, DUH.

i like this angle. using social networking. i mean, people put it online, it's not private any longer. it's their own fault from then on if they get caught.

Employers will check your facebook as well. If you put information online, you have to know that it becomes public- so if you're a fugitive and dumb enough to post your whereabouts on a facebook page- so be it.

Better learn to know, everywhere you go your on camara several times a day
Cell phones, internet, the information highway you leave a trail every day
Every bank transaction you make its ultimitly in the central reserve/ Banking database.
You have no privacy anymore and you haven't for quite some time many people just don't know or acknowledge the fact, You can still lead a private life/very private and it better be quiet or you'll be in more peoples database than you could ever possibly imagine.

Think about how they catch online child touchers . They have to be bait .

I can't believe they actually catch people like that. It should be common sense not to talk about your illegal activities to people you're not 100% sure about. Ah, well, there's never a shortage of stupid people.

Is anyone surprised? Shit, most of the people that are on social networking sites are bullshitters anyway, they can't all be banking executives, international spies, corporate lawyers, Doctors, professional race car drivers, Senators, or Presidents of small Latin American countries.

if your worried about it, set your facebook page to private and know who the people are that your accepting.

This is nothing new the FBI and all other law enforcement agencies have always used covert means to monitor the nation's terror threat, investigate organizations they deem dangerous. Nothing has changed except the technology involved.
