Campaign Fail: Cash Gordon

It looks like 2010 won't be the virtual general election MPs were hoping for, after the Conservative #cashgordon campaign faces failure and ridicule on twitter. Also heard the site was hacked, but lost the tweet.

The website aimed at criticising Labours relationship with Unite Union went online yesterday according to the Guardian, but today it was noted that the $15,000 website was very similar visually to an anti-healthcare lobbyist group website. Check out the Guardian website for both images.

"Political Scrapbook, also hosted beside campaign sites Hands Off, which aggregates tweets against healthcare reforms, Americans for the Military's petition against homosexuals in the armed forces and, just for good measure, the Heritage Foundation's attacks against carbon trading legislation."-The Guardian

The article adds, one tweeter found no one was monitoring the tweets appearing on the website, @OllyBeat "All tweets with #cashgordon appear on Tory campaign website. The sh*t door is open and the nutters are pouring in. See you there..."

Most comments on twitter seem to show how the users hate this kind of campaigning, so will this style continue or can strategists find a new plan?

    • Copying an anti-healthcare site (guess their campaign was a failure) was a silly mistake, and all with the budget coming up. FAIL!
