    • If you saw Jamie Oliver showing an actual tomato to kids in grade school in Virginia, they could not identify a tomato? They didn't know what it was, how sad is that? But show them a Ketchup bottle...and gaga...what is wrong with the big picture -have they been brainwashed and how can we reverse it? Take your kids to a farm and teach them to grow food not buy it in a box.

    • Wow...that looks like Real Food, what a novel idea!! Does this mean we can throw out 95 percent of the boxed plastic foods into the garbage? Great!!

    • The closest produce farm to me is 30 miles away called "Mister Cookie Face"... Seriously. A practical joke or a real farm.. Who knows!

That is totally hilarious! It is a real farm that provides dairy for "Mr. Cookie Face" Ice Cream. Anybody can add a farm at any time but some are not really supporting the local food movement. Mr. Cookie Face is frowning because he had to go. If they profile the actual farm, that would be fine but there has to be a connection to local food.

    • Bioguy,

      Never heard of brix readings.

Maybe that should be something mentioned in the reviews:

Right now it is too expensive to consider really having sustainability ratings because you need to pay a qualified certifying body like Food Alliance and not every grower is Food Alliance certified.

I used Old Creek Ranch as an example because they are the perfect example of what we would like to see in an ideal world. The point of Top 10 is to give the consumer the information about what the growers like Old Creek are doing so that the consumers demand their produce more than produce from less sustainable growing operations.

For Old Creek, it is certainly working, and they are an example that other growers are willing to follow.

Thank you for your response. I had mentioned brix readings at the end of my comments. I do understand the difficulties of average farmers trying to grow more with less. Thankfully science is now available to the average farmer. Most certifying organizations are focused on ORGANIC not high brix. They charge too much i agree. Luckily alternative methods exist to achieve sustainable conditions in a short period of time.
All positive initiatives are part of the success of reversing years of chemical farming. Every farm making a difference needs to be recognized for their efforts to give hope to those trying their best .

    • Having a fresh produce website is beneficial from a permaculture point of view. A precusor or cross reference should be brix readings of your produce for sale. Too many local farmers are attempting to sell their produce for high prices using the word ORGANIC. Most consumers are now educated enough to know the 30 year scam of ORGANICS. Building healthy soils by adding a balance of microbes and returning a full spectrum of ocean based nutrients will yield higher brix readings and also cut the operational costs in half. Healthy food surpasses organic foods and cost much less to produce and can be retailed for less to help shift people away from chemical farming methods.
