SNL parody Juggalos

This weekend, Saturday Night Live aired an infomercial for a fictional music festival.

This video takes aim at shock-rappers Insane Clown Posse. ICP's fanbase embrace the band's music, merchandise and populist rhetoric. They call themselves "Juggalos"

Each year ICP fans convene to celebrate their lifestyle at The Gathering of the Juggalos. This is the video that SNL parodied.

"Juggalo fascination" has officially reblogged itself into the mainstream. Most SNL viewers probably laughed at the video, even though they didn't know it was a parody. This interest in the Juggalo has more to do with the writers, than the their intended audience.

Non-Juggalos have been writing about Juggalos for years. I first read about this subculture in a 2007   Vice Magazine. The writer goes undercover The Gathering. The article feels like war journalism, at times the writer feels like his life is in danger. (HE HAS TO DODGE FLYING BOTTLES OF SODA POP!)

I am ambivalent to the Juggalo. I believe they exhibit the worst behaviors of mainstream consumer capitalism. But I was also overjoyed when I saw them in real life. I have that same Juggalo fascination as the writers of the SNL parody.
