TANK talk------

Russia's new main battle tank (MBT), the T-95, could be exhibited for the first time at an arms show in the Urals Region this summer, the developer and future manufacturer of the tank has said.

The development of the new tank dubbed "Item 195" began at the Uralvagonzavod design bureau in the early 1990s. Russia will become the first country in the world to have the 5th-generartion MBT if the military commissions the vehicle.

    • who do the russians plan on fighting? They invaded georgia and nobody said boo seems a waste of limited funds although they allow themselves to use there resources unlike some countries so they might be somewhat flush with cash

    • The T-95, should it enter service, might have a better gun and could exceed the M1A2's 429-kilometer range (Russian tanks usually have a range of 550-650 kilometers when equipped with extra fuel tanks), but the M1A2 is superior in most other aspects by which a tank is judged, particularly in fire control, crew survivability, the IVIS system (when used), and since it is already in service. It might cost $4.3 million per tank when compared to the $1.8 million Pakistan paid for each of the 320 T-80UDs Pakistan bought from the Ukraine, but the U.S. Army, in battles like 73 Easting (where the M1A1HA-equipped Eagle Troop of the 2nd ACR under H.R. McMaster, with other units, defeated elements of the Tawakalna Division) during Desert Storm, has proven that the M1 series of tanks can win when badly outnumbered. The M1A2 still rules the battlefield, and will for the foreseeable future.
The real difference is in the experience levels of the different tank corps. The real difference is made in crew quality – and American tank crews have the decided edge over their counterparts in other countries. This is due to two factors: Combat experience in two wars since 1990, and much better training, most notably at the National Training Center. The former is arguably the best teacher in the world. It brutally shows what was done right and wrong, and grading is not on a curve. The latter is the toughest training regime in the world – often American combat veterans have compared fighting in Desert Storm or Iraqi Freedom to the NTC, with the caveat that the Iraqis weren’t as good as the OPFOR (the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment). Training at home bases (American tank crews fire about 100 rounds per year, in addition to demonstrations and NTC rotations) and the constant use of simulators add to the American edge in training.

    • With new threamal imaging tech and millimeter wave targeting this tank could be a devestator on the battlefeild. With the advent of rapid firing gatling type weapons we could be looking at a diferent type of battle tank. The russians have never been slouches for coming up with new and hard hitting feild armor. From the T34 on they have been able to come up with new and intimidating designs. They have also had the ability to develop new tactics to be very effective, The thing we have to remember is that the Russian way of warfare is allways offensive, They beleive in hitting a fly with a sheet of sheet steel.

    • Color me skeptical, I doubt it could be any match for the Abrams.

We have a pretty firm grasp of tank science and engineering, there's not much further you can go than protection against shaped charges.

It is of a lighter weight. It could be possible that it incorporates active defense systems like we were testing on the lighter generation of artillery like the NLOS. The survivability with remote controlled turrets, as well if its an automated loading system the increased rate of fire, could make this a very formidable weapon. The guided missiles could also perhaps be used as an anti air defense? Not sure. But one major advantage is again the weight. It can actually be transported by the air easily unlike an Abrams.

The Russians aren't to be underestimated. Their tanks have always been well known to be some of the biggest and baddest out there, maybe only second to some of the German tanks. I certainly wouldn't want to face one, even in an Abrams, if I could avoid it.

They just waged an agressive campaign in Georgia and are fighting insurgents in caucus states like Dagistan and Chechnya. It's sad but it's for aggressive action rather than protection. Though you could say much the same of our current generation of fighter aircraft.

You are absolutely correct not only do we need to keep a watchful and wary eye of Russia's new weapon technology but Russia's lax and zealous sale of arms and weapon technology to many nations that are currently on both ours and the U.N's "States that sponsor Terror" lists. Also, Russia is extremely desperate to regain it's World Superpower Status and our goals don't always match up. The aggression in Georgia was a land war of the not seen in decades and the United States was powerless to stop it. Chechnya is an war of terror that will last for decades, Dagistan is the big question mark. Also, Russia is extremely unhappy with our lack of action in Afghanistan's drug trade. Most alarming is two nations that have historically always been mortal enemies (Russia and China) have over the last two years grow closer over issues of natural resources...Russia has them, China wants them and the Bear and the Dragon has even started "Combined Massive Military Manoeuvres" A true strong Russia/China alliance will be the true "Super-power" in the decades to come.

The joker kicked major ass for the Marines in Now Zad during Operation Cobra's Anger. A huge success about 38 million a peace but a combo mile sweeper, heavy armored troop transport and missile deployment system is a much need and welcomed piece of technology.

Peace = no more people killing people over stupid reasons.

There would be still be massive violence with/out guns. Even more gruesome without probably, seeing as that leaves only bombs, blades, and gas.
