Discovery that quasars don't show time dilation mystifies astronomers

The phenomenon of time dilation is a strange yet experimentally confirmed effect of relativity theory. One of its implications is that events occurring in distant parts of the universe should appear to occur more slowly than events located closer to us. For example, when observing supernovae, scientists have found that distant explosions seem to fade more slowly than the quickly-fading nearby supernovae.

    • Just thinking outside of the box, so to speak. What if we are thinking of much of this stuff in the wrong way. We humans tend to think that everything evolves around us as if we are the center of all creation. Many believe that UFO's and Aliens don't exist and therefore we are the most intelligent and evolved beings in all that exists.

Lets jump out of that happy, safe and comfortable frame of mind and ask ourselves if it is possible that we are not. What if the universe is not necessarily expanding away from us but in some cases it is being pushed or pulled by other forces to come and go in various directions. Lets say there are numerous black holes in space and they are not all aimed in the same direction. What if we are on different sides of black holes. We don't really know what is on the other side of a black hole so how can we quantify what is on the other side of one. Perhaps we are on the other side of one that is so far away that we can't detect it.

What if the big bang did actually happen, but lets go a little further. What if the big bang has happened a billion times in a billion places. Don't like the numbers? Then let's say it happened twice, once here and another time some where else perhaps ten trillion light years away. Logically, if it can happen once it can happen twice. Since they have never found the beginning or the ending of space, that leaves a great deal of area and possibilities for anything to happen. Since we can't comprehend such things we default to assumptions and that becomes our new truth. Assumptions!

The studies of such things is still relatively new. Granted, we know much more than a hundred years ago but we still don't know all that much. Much of what we think we know is still in many cases either hypothesis, theory or just plain conjecture. We are still discovering simple things that are much closer here on earth. Some of these things literally impacts and changes things we have previously believed causing our truths to amend.

Now I will crawl back into our safe little box of being the center of all creation and the most highly developed and intelligent life forms in existence. Suddenly, I feel extremely important and yet so small and all alone in such a large place...
