One large problem with this bill is that police only need "reasonable suspicion" in order to ask for someone's paper's. thus avoiding the fact that we have the constitutional right angainst search and seizure without "probable cause." Reasonable suspicion is not defined and therefor left in the hands of police who may be bigots themselves. This means that if a mexican-american citizen is walking down the street speaking spanish to his mexican-american son a cop can come up and ask for his papers. If he forgot his wallet at home thats too bad, its off to jail with you. Oh and your son... no one is here to take care of him now so he will be following us to the precinct in another car and while you're in a jail cell, we (the possibly racist police) will be deciding what to do with him. Maybe they send him to DSS maybe something else. No, this law doesn't create racism but it is going to make it spread like wild fire. And laura, I don't care how many times you've read the bill obviously you have no idea what it entails.

Laura,
I'm not concerned with the jargon of the bill its inherent purpose is racist. Plain and simple, to assume the enforcement of the law against immigrants wont be tinted with racism is assuming too much of arizona law enforcement. I couldn't imagine any civilized country having such a practice.
Sorry but my ban on Az continues, my colleagues agree in solidarity. I propose economically starving Arizona until a team of philosophers and scientist are granted full legislative control of that state.

This law is bad news for AZ. Racist is deep seeded in this State. I live in Az. I pray for the people that this unfair law will attack. Our own President was not even born in the USA. Thank you Rachel for standing up for the truth.

hey you can justify anything even if its inherently racist, even in 2010. Other than a massive nationwide "restructuring" of the country I don't see any way to purge ignorance from america.

Instead of making these obscure laws, govt should concentrate on stopping illegal immigration.

A reader said "Every Hispanic & foreign "LOOKING" person is going to be asked for proof of citizenship?
Do you carry your birth certificate or passport when you take your kids to buy ice cream?
What if you're just walking down the street? I've never been walking and asked by a cop for ID.
What about someone sitting in the back seat? Do they automatically need to show ID???
See the problem?
Only HISPANICS will need to worry about these things.
That's called discriminatory racial profiling.
Duhh???" - 2 years ago
