Have they finally lost it? Are the likes of Microsoft, Apple, Nintendo pulling ahead? Have they already lost the console-race? Or is this jumping the gun?

Personally, I love Sony's work, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense. They seem out of touch with their consumers, particularly when it comes to using proprietary formats. Anyone remember the walkman? Then came mini-discs. And Apple.

"E3's biggest loser? It's Sony. They've been lagging behind for years overall, but to lose at hardware, their strongest suit? What a pity.

Look at all three companies that define the industry. Microsoft is a software company, so Xbox has the best software and services, like Xbox Live, Zune and Windows Media Extender. Nintendo is fundamentally a games company, so they make the best games (or at least, the greatest quantity of amazing, if iterative games). Sony is a consumer electronics company, so they excel at hardware: The PlayStation 3 is defined by Blu-ray and its Cell processor; the PSP blew out the DS in terms of specs, not software. Raw hardware power.

So how the hell has Sony lost the hardware race two years running at E3? Squandering their most valuable brand, PlayStation, is a spectacular failure that doesn't bode well for a glorious return to the Sony of old."

    • I don't know why people think they lost E3... Imo microsoft's conference was the one that made me fall asleep most...

ehh I hate how the industry has become about the gimicks (3D, move kineckt, et cetera) and the casuals...

I just want to get back to the times of BF2 and CSS... in terms of development that is...

    • The share price would appear to be holding quite well this would indicate a steady profit through the biggest dip in consumer spending on record.

    • The Kinect looks stupid or at least the games that utilize it look stupid. Maybe it will get better but I am not going to be dancing in my bedroom in front of the tv screen to Michael Jackson songs and I won't be tickling a tiger named skittles.

    • E3 means shit, there have been many instances where something bombed at E3 or some other demo-convention and totally kicked ass in the market. Hold your horses and just see what happens.

      Sony's still strong.
