“The more liberal stories that were buried the better chance conservative stories have to get to the front page. I’ll continue to bury their submissions until they change their ways and become conservatives.”
-phoenixtx (aka vrayz)
One bury brigade in particular is a conservative group that has become so organized and influential that they are able to bury over 90% of the articles by certain users and websites submitted within 1-3 hours, regardless of subject material. Literally thousands of stories have already been artificially removed from Digg due to this group. When a story is buried, it is removed from the upcoming section (where it is usually at for ~24 hours) and cannot reach the front page, so by doing this, this one group is removing the ability of the community as a whole to judge the merits or interest of these stories on their own (in essence: censoring content). This group is known as the Digg “Patriots”.
DIGG PATRIOTS
A group of nearly one hundred conservatives have banded together on a Yahoo Group called Digg Patriots (DP), and a companion site at coRanks to issue bury orders and discuss strategies to censor Digg and other social media websites. DP was founded on 21 May 2009. Since then, over 40,000 posts have been logged at a steady rate of around 3000-4000 per month. The “Patriots” Network on coRank is a tool to submit Diggs to a group list as opposed to sending an e-mail every time. It also has some tools that make submitting to the list as easy as clicking on a bookmark. The DP membership includes the following Digg users (among others):
-
- groups:
- Community, News and Politics, Politics, Tech, 17 more
-
- tags:
- Republican, GOP, tea party, Fraud, 5 more

The irony is that this sort of censorship and media suppression is akin to the very socialist totalitarian regimes that conservatives claim to fight against.

Good or bad, Socialism is an economic system. The right wing uses that word incorrectly. It has nothing to do with totalitarianism. McCarthyism is still alive and kicking I see.

I doubt seriously you're giving them enough credit. Irony involves
something resulting that's the opposite of what was sought after
but innocently. There's nothing innocent about them. They deliberately
intended to control others' minds to their p.o.v. by manipulating
content to be only slanted toward what would support their politics.
Something as low and foul as that is more aptly termed hypocrisy. - 1 year ago

wow dedication to an ideology to this extreme is orwellian. I can almost hear the scowls of party members in my head just imaging the type of people who would engage bloggers in what appears to be cyber warfare. I'd have to hire a psychoanalyst just to understand the kind of person who would do this for a few bucks. Then again I envy think tanks only because that's pretty much what most of the political ones do 90% of time in one form or another, I think I'd get ptsd from that line of work.

This story was in the top ten a few hours ago when I first read it. now I can't even find it in the top 20. Just goes to show that the right has nothing constuctive to offer, they have no good arguments to back up their issues and they are, on the whole, a bunch of lying, manipulating, CHEATING asswipes. If you have to further your cause through subterfuge and deceit, what does that say for your cause?

Currents policy of hits determining how high up a story rises is the dumbest way to get real news out. Its the one thing that really pisses me off about this website. Other than that they are extremely tolorent. Stories should be ranked based on 1 how pertinent it is then 2 how many written responses it gets.

littlwarrior is right, it's not the Progressives on this site that see to the burying of conservative stories. It's the whacked out, "are you @#$%ing kidding me?" nature of the submissions.
And for the record, I think most of us make an honest attempt to read each story, even if it's conservative, for the sake of discourse.

Repugs can never prevail based on the merit of their own arguments. they always seem to revert to some kind of underhanded tactics to come out on top. They turn the phrase: "It doesn't matter whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game" on it's head.

Oh, can see the distinction. It's just that the threshold for having your personal attacks removed is a lot higher. But the difference is that I attack you personally because you continuously fail to address the issues of what is being discussed. For instance, one thread argues that President Obama supports war. You try to throw in an irrelevant article claiming that Ron Paul is a racist. You do this constantly--google red herring when you get the chance. But that's just how it goes here on Current...besides, I think you have had plenty of your comments removed for the same reason.
