Monsanto Roundup: It's your future edition

In this edition the discussion surrounds events taking place in the world of Monsanto and biotech:
* Monsanto's new poison, and DOW's reinvention of an old one
* Regulate and label GMOs President Obama !
* Illegal transgenic contamination events in New Zealand, Italy, Ireland,...
* Submission from Norway on the risks of GMOs to biodiversity... you know, that thing that allows us to continue living on Earth.
In lieu of reports of both declining ocean and plant diversity, I truly think it is time to take stock in just what the hell we are doing to this planet and yes, that does include climate change!
So please avail yourself of the knowledge available on the Sustainable Agriculture Group, and thanks for the support. Knowledge is power.
Monsanto, out of our food!

There are natural ways to control pests and weeds without the use of poisons. Farmers who care about the land and the future sustainability of it can use these methods to actually improve soil quality and yield. Agent orange will most assuredly not guarantee that.

I was thinking hourly, but you could be on to something. Pennsylvania farms have a lot of weeds. I'm suggesting this to anyone in need of work.

You condone this? This is what overexposure to Agent Orange in the environment does, and it isn't just ON your food, it is IN the air, and IN the water, which is just part of the horror. If you want that on our food even after seeing the decades of human and environmental suffering it has already brought without accountability, it only shows what an ignorant heartless POS you are. So yes, I would "pluck weeds" for farmers.

Pesticide what's that? Marigolds (and a few other plants) repel a few insects, just mix them in your garden... Hmmm and/or you can take some powdered garlic boil it in water strain the powder sludge out and use it to spray your plants daily (bugs hate it).
I know doesn't apply to industrial farming as well, but industrial farming sucks.
Just buy you some "heirloom" seeds (read up on them real well heirlooms are way more sensitive to stress), and grow your own.
Do that and don't support Monsanto by buying anything they have a hand in.
Now if everyone could see past working overtime to afford that new Lexus (or whatever), re-prioritize their lives, we could run Monsanto out of business

I've been useing QuikPro by Roundup to kill the johnson grass around the house. I have to say it works real good. Beats useing a weed eater. Plus it has a stort half life Because after thirty or fourtyfive days I see new growth.

Here it is, straight from the Devil's, uh, I mean horse's mouth. Their "Triple Flex" pesticide just in time for the 2011 season. Ummm. ummm. good.
http://www.mindfully.org/Pesticide/Clopyralid.htm
Oh, and take a look at the main ingredient. Makes you hungry, doesn't it?
___
"The herbicide clopyralid is commonly sold under the brand names Transline, Stinger, and Confront. It is used to kill unwanted plants in lawn and turf, range, pasture, rights-of-way, sugarbeets, mint, and wheat. Clopyralid and the products containing it are irritating to eyes, some severely. The eye hazards of four clopyralid products include permanent impairment of vision or irreversible damage. In laboratory tests, clopyralid caused what a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reviewer called "substantial" reproductive problems. These include a reduction in the weight of fetuses carried by rabbits who ingested clopyralid, an increase in skeletal abnormalities in these fetuses at all doses tested, and an increase in the number of fetuses with hydrocephaly, accumulation of excess fluid around the brain. "Inert" ingredients in clopyralid products include cyclohexanone (produces tearing and burning of the eyes, vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness), triethylamine (a severe eye irritant and cause of chemical pneumonia), and polyethoxylated tallow amines (cause eye burns, nausea, and are acutely toxic to fish). Clopyralid is "persistent" in soil, according to an EPA review, and field studies have measured persistence as long as 14 months. It has the chemical characteristics that make it a likely water contaminant; despite its relatively low level of use it has been found in 2 of the 20 river basins studied by the U.S. Geological Survey. Potatoes are extremely sensitive to clopyralid with damage occurring when plants are exposed to 0.07 percent of typical agricultural rates. When tubers from these damaged plants were grown in unsprayed fields, the new generation of plants also showed damage symptoms."

This isn't just about a label, this is about Democracy, business ethics, bioethics, consumer disclosure, and morality.Stop saying one thing and doing another, President Obama. It doesn't exactly build up confidence in people that you really care.

Ten, twenty years into the future, what will we say should we see the signs of exactly what we ignored when the status quo was allowed to muffle this information?
