Google buying UAV drones for Street View spying

The UAVs being flogged are mini helicopters with cameras attached that can be flown about all over the place. They're quiet and resemble sci-fi UFOs for the vertically challenged alien.
They can fly up to 80km per hour, so Microdrone CEO Sven Juerss suggests they'll be brilliant for mapping entire neighbourhoods really quickly and relatively cheaply.
Even before Google started data mining on open web networks its Street View operations were controversial, with Google Maps picking up on people who didn't exactly want their faces plastered all over the internet. With the kind of high-angle aerial shots this sort of kit can achieve, it boggles the mind as to the sort of images that may be accidentally captured.
Our take: Skepticism is warranted, and outrage is probably premature.
Our understanding is that FAA certification procedures for civilian UAVs operating in domestic airspace are not yet in place, so it is not clear that the regular operation of such UAVs would be legal -- never mind prudent from a privacy or public-relations point of view.

Personally, I'm off the google train. I switched to Bing and it doesn't feel like I'm missing anything, plus it has a few non-life-altering features that google doesn't.

they worked with the NSA on windows 7, if that does not raise some red flags (yes i had CIA in there orginally, my bad) but still any gov't envolvement in development needs to be questioned, and you need to wonder what back doors they built in

Seriously? The CIA does not handle matters of computer security, that falls under the NSA... and since the CIA works closely with the NSA they are not going to spend the money or effort with public companies on a project they can ask to be handled by their more qualified sister company. SE Linux was also developed in cooperation with the NSA, and was widely distributed ... for free by red hat with their Fedora kernels... I am not sure if it is still distributed with Cent OS, it was hugely unpopular because of its poor documentation. However the reasoning was to make an operating system that was more suitable for use by sensitive government agencies. Do you seriously think that cooperation by a OS vendor with security experts is a bad idea? The NSA has been releasing, for free, lock down tools for windows based systems. You can download them from nsa.gov, and it is called the NSA Gold Disk. Careful, you can lock yourself out of your computer very easily rendering it useless.
I guess I have three assumptions about you.
A) Guess you are a Mac fan boy then. B) You know nothing of computer security C) Probably have or are eligible for a diagnosis of Clinical Paranoia.PS mac is one of the most vulnerable systems out there (besides network printers), people with the skill to mess with them generally do not how ever because their users never have anything useful.

You watch to many movies Sir, a laser pointer wont do it, generally speaking certain cameras have problems with ultra violet light, but that is generally only for cameras that invoke motion sensing... those probable do not. a laser pointer may, if aimed absolutely right at a target several hundred meters in the air, create a single red pixel in the image...

I say we start a grassroots effort and pick a day and time for everyone to moon the Google drones. Fukin A I am gettin tired of Big Brother looking everywhere but down my drawers, I say we all get together and give em a synchronized view.
