On a side note: If you make apps this is your time in the sun. Enjoy it, and, please, remember to be an agent of good, not evil.

The Web is hardly dead, Newsgroups and Email on the other hand... hahaha
Shouldn't Facebook just be a massive tumor, mentioned by name, on that map? Or 'Social Networking' if nothing else?

I think it's kind of like the article in this month's Discover Magazine saying the human brain is shrinking. It's not that we're getting dumber with the shrinking of our brain it's that we're becoming more specialized and don't need to expend the extra energy from large size as before, the circuitry has become more finetuned.
I think people know where they want to go on the Internet these days and so they don't waste the bumbling around looking for stuff as they would have in the past. We've all found our 'niche' on the Net.

The way I read it is that they are referring to a free and open internet vs. your iPhone/Android; a public interstate vs. a toll highway.
It is not like the WWW won't be there, just that none of your friends will be on it like we are now. Instead, we will all be shuffling between apps to talk to each other.
So, in the end, it may be good for your professional career.

I am curious if by web they are referring to standard web pages? being a software and web developer I can assure you that technology is moving towards a more service based model but I don't really see the demise of HTTP or even TCP/IP. These are essentially the essence of the internet as a whole.
