Study Shows Narcissists Like Facebook the Most

Mashable reports that a recent survey shows that narcissistic people tend to use Facebook in a more "self-promotional" way--that is, posting attractive photos of themselves and referencing how intelligent they are in the 'About Me' section. What Newsfeed wants to know is if they really needed to conduct a study to determine this? (via Mashable)

So glad I kept my New Year's Resolution to delete my account. Besides crawling with Feds and selling private data, its chock full of yuppies trapped in the matrix.

    • I am a Narcissist that loves Facebook. I find it has been a fun way to reconnect with people. I have also met a lot of new people on Facebook through various Facebook games.

Facebook lets me spout off my views on everything from Politics to Science. I know people are reading my endless posts, because I get a lot of comments. I get a thrill out of knowing people are interested in what I think about things, whether or not they agree.

    • Facebook is a mirror on who and what we are. I watch in surpise how those people who I knew in high school ( thirty seven years ago) who were the ones I could see back then to be less intelligent now post on facebook some of the most conservative views, support people like Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Other quote Ronald Reagan like he was some sort of Guru. Now if this is not indicitive of how education creates better and more complete thought processes nothing is. To be undereducated and conservative is just plain stupid. The conservative rhetoric that plays to these people preys upon their lower income status to promote intolorance for those on welfare, food stamps, unemployment as these lower income undereducated people feel they are getting too much for nothing and that their taxes pay for it. This play and prey is the most disgusting stratagy I can imagine for those who do need economic help to create better incomes for themselves. Maybe then they wouldn't be subject and inspired by the right wing rhetoric that is killing the Untied States.

man but you're not "bringing sense into people"... you're just annoying us.Why do you feel its your place to "bring sense" into people as if you are already perfectly enlightened and therefore entitled to do so?If you wanted to ""bring sense" into people you would do it with compassion...that is the only way a good seed takes hold...Grow up and deflate your ego.It won't take you anywhere.

    • I had a Facebook account for a week. Family wanted to "stay connected" so I told them all " Pick up the phone and call me " at which time I told them, don't put my personal business, information or photo's on your pages!

    • I only use facebook to keep in touch with family and share photos with close friends... That's about it. Even with that I really consider deleting it. There's other means to share photos, and what ever happened to calling someone you want to keep in touch with?

I really hate how it's turned into the pussy's soapbox. Do your 300+ friends really care about your insignificant grievances? I can understand showing off a bit, even then that's dickish at some point, but what's the point of complaining about every little fucking problem in your life, every second of the day? Do they really think they're the only ones? As if it matters? Cry me a fucking river...

I also reckon facebook to cause an inflation of 'friends' You can amass so many 'friends' that they all begin to lose individual value. They're mostly 'acquaintances' really; who really has hundreds of REAL friends? I continually delete all the people I've really lost touch with, they're really not worth my time. The ones that do matter, i talk to daily and don't really need facebook to keep track of. Maybe i will delete it... hmmm

If you don't like Facebook, don't use it. It's really that simple. Personally, I hate phones. If you can't communicate with me face to face, by email, text message or Facebook or what have you

      keep it.

      My life, my rules.

    • I do not support the notion that it's a bad thing to love oneself and advertise the fact to others, particularly when that self-love is largely justified. Human culture doesn't actually suffer from an overabundance of self-love but rather an overabundance of self-denigration and the denigration of others.

Such denigration is the essential nature of at least the major western religions and their influence is telling in human culture past and present.

In my experience, if one has a healthy, balanced amount of self-respect, one tends to have a healthy balanced respect for others. If one knows how to and and is willing to love oneself, one has the beginnings of love for and the will to love others.

Again, in my experience, those we might label true narcissists appear only to love themselves excessively because they genuinely despise others excessively. It's not really the self-love others react to but rather the excessive marginalization of all else in the "narcissist".

    • All I know is I can figure out things like particle physics, Hubble Bubbles, and time, space and dimension. BUT, I cannot figure out Facebook! Why in the world does it have to be any more complicated then say, ahhh Current?
Perhaps one would have to be a self-absorbed narcissist to get it. I do not know. All I know is I am retarded with Facebook. UGH!
