Facebook Disabling Key Features on Corporate Boycott Pages!!!

Indeed, the popular social networking site recently locked-down sections of a page that been created to boycott Target until the company ceased funding [allegedly] anti-gay politicians, such as Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer.
Jeffrey Henson - who runs the controversial group - told Politico(http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0910/42364.html) that FB was banning new discussion threads, preventing members from posting videos and barring administrators from sending updates to boycott members.
"It slices the [virtual] vocal cords," claimed an angry Henson. "Our page [members] are now outraged over the website's actions."
Nicholas Lefevre, an avid promoter of the Target boycott, expressed similar sentiments.
"Facebook is interfering with the function of a page dedicated to individuals organizing in response to corporate action to which they object.
"With the limited avenues for such expression and organization and the importance of the Internet to that ability, anything that threatens that expression is dangerous."
However, a Facebook spokesperson told Politico the pages were restricted because they didn't comply with the site's (stringent) terms of service.
"Facebook Pages enable public figures, organizations, businesses, and brands to share information, interact with interested people, and maintain an engaging presence on Facebook.
"They're...optimized for official entities' needs to communicate, distribute content, engage people and capture new audiences. To protect people from spam and other unwanted content, we restrict Pages that represent ideas or positions - rather than discrete entities - from publishing stories to people's News Feeds."
But Ilyse Hogue of the liberal grassroots group Moveon.org said she believes democracy clearly "works best" when every single citizen's voice is weighed equally.
"[Unfortunately, it seems as if] the whole [FB] system is titled away from those individual voices," added Hogue.

Stop whining and get on with it. Bloody whiners.

I could honestly care less about what Facebook is doing. It's more of this bs about these social networks, and just like Myspace, Facebook has had it's time and now it's time to jump the shark. People bitched about the kids on Myspace, how the kids were killing annoying and how people's pages slowed down their [crappy] computers.
Now we're at facebook, and the more political minded people are worrying about privacy, while the more uninformed people are only worrying about how boring facebook is getting, and moving to Twitter and creating this false vale of self importance around themselves. Don't put anything up on facebook you don't want anyone to see, and that's not hard, any real personal business, no personal business in your wall, because everyone can see that and not everyone you add is an 100% friend. Nothing is on my facebook, but a few pics, I only friend 74 friends(and the majority all came looking for me) my likes, and some rants on my Wall.
If you want to get rid of your facebook, then find the actual delete page, it's hidden, but search Google "How to really delete your facebook" it's a 14 day process, and it's not the deactivation it's the full deletion.
But we'll see what happens next, whats the next big thing, because like I said; in five short years facebook has jumped the shark, movies and all of this other crap.
While I'm looking forward to the film(Trent Reznor on music, Director of Fight Club, Se7ven and of other good films, directing) this might me good.

FYI:
This is not meant to imply insult or injury; it is merely For Your Information.
"I could honestly care less";
Means: that you care in some capacity, that would allow you to care less than you already do."I couldn't care less";
Means: that you care about the subject matter a little as you possibly can, although still implies some level of caring (how low or high is vague in this expression, though generally taken to be low)."I care not at all" or "I do not care" or "I could not care";
Means: that there is no concern whatsoever, or that being concerned is an impossibility. - 1 year ago

Sadly true, but Facebook is not bound to uphold any freedom of speech standards, just as moderators can delete comments they don't like from privately owned message boards. I would be willing to bet they do the same for any group that might be harmful to an advertiser or sponsor. What makes this frustrating for many is that, for better or worse (oh, let's just say worse...) Facebook has become the central hub for gathering on-line, but it's hardly a place that encourages free speech (unless you want to tell everyone all about how great your Farmville farm is doing). The bottom line: when profit's at stake, free speech becomes an inconvenient luxury. Facebook, like Current, could have changed the world, but once again, money is the word of the day. Maybe this will finally give rise to a multi-platform site that will allow like-minded people to gather and discuss openly about relevant issues, to engage in the kind of social activism that is necessary for a functioning democracy. You know, like what Current was supposed to be before MTV took over.

Here is an idea, Why don't all you Gay's and Lesbians fund a server and start your own website. Just like my business Facebook can refuse service to anyone it chooses, at anytime, for any reason. I boycot Home Depot because they support Gay rights, but I don't go on-line and slander the company to further that agenda. Their employees can wear Gay Rights Pins but not the Amercian Flag or anything that says in GOD we trust? I simply cut off the Home Depot to the tune of Tens of Thousands of Dollars a year in business.

So, all the stuff that's "I love chocolate", "Look! Look! Look!...Ahh you missed it", "I really hate slow computers", and the 5 bazillion (Overstatement 'cause I can't be bothered to actually count) other pages similar to those should be restricted, right?

How is Facebook infringing on democracy? Facebook is not a government, they are a private corporation. They have every right to restrict whatever content they choose.
If enough people care they will boycott Facebook and the company will be forced to change their practices. That is how the free market works.

Yeah, nice made-up statistics, homophobe, but I think you'd be surprised to learn that 70% of Facebook users are outside the United States. You may be right. but you may also be wrong the birth of a gay child may force the ignorant person to see that there is nothing wrong with being gay. I also believe that the parent that can not handle haveing a gay child is not ready to be a parent at all. no child is perfect no matter how or who they turn out to be. We all have flaws that a parent will ignore. Now before others start flameing me I am not saying that being gay is a flaw. Oh and I would not wish for a tiger to eat a human do you know how much fat is in most humans? It's enough to give a tiger a heart attack
