Do you think a Republican, or Independent President would be different? Do you think anyone would give up the power to control the masses? There are many reasons to vote, or not vote for a particular candidate. Although I dislike this aspect of President Obama, there are many others, which I agree.

The pro Obama people here are unreal. The beginning sentence in the article reads, "The Obama administration is pushing to make it easier for the government to tap into internet and e-mail communications." Read it again fools. Obama is trying to make it easier. It makes no difference who started it the fact remains that Obama owns what happens now and that is that. Blame Bush or anyone else for the 400 vans that HOmeland Security bought with x-ray technology that enables the gov. to see into your home and car as they drive by. We have virtual nudity now at the airports to get on to a plane. The courts are saying that its ok for the feds to place a GPS tracker on your car willy nilly.
It is the same as spending. The great liberal defense to the spending spree this regime is on with the help of Congress is addressed by saying that the Republicans did it under Bush. So what. Where is the relevance. Does that make it ok for us to continue it? How about some intellectual honesty. Liberals disgust me. Evidently it is ok if they do it but not ok if anyone else does. The greatest danger we face is Obama and liberals on the Hill regardless of D or R.
This article addresses the encroaching government control we face. It cannot be done without the complicity of both parties. Bush didn't do Iraq or spend without both parties. Obama didn't spend more and encroach more on our freedoms with the Dems alone. The problems transcend party affiliation. This is why I am an independent. If we keep giving up our freedoms to government control we will wind up with no freedoms or whatever freedoms the government lets us have, something like the U.N. Bill of Rights. There is even a bill in the Senate now that will control your raising of animals for meat or pleasure or vegetables to eat. Get a grip. The government will not solve our problems. While they split us apart they are then implementing more and more controls over the people. Wake up. - 1 year ago

No you're not an independant you'er a consevitive and no matter how you twist and turn conservitive still equals republican. And yes you'er a hipocrit because you said nothing for 8 years and now you want to push all this country's woes on this president like it just fucking happened. This alone shows our contempt the inteligence of your fellow Americans to think they would listen to a single grip from your lips after they where silent through the travisty that was your conservitive ideal presidency that of GW Bush and company.

Quote "The Obama administration is pushing to make it easier for the government to tap into internet and e-mail communications."
so the question crazily and hugely ironically becomes what is President Obama's administration's definition of "is"?
The way I see it is the CIA director did not change under President Obama...so I will give you the point that President Obama is responsible for choosing to take up and run with the powers given to him and the federal government under the Patriot Act and no that is not something we can or should blame former President George W. Bush for.
But I wonder how much of this is just background noise planted by the same Republicans who took over the Tea Party and who keep pushing to discredit President Obama in every way and with every resource imaginable and how much of this is really just a bunch of soon to be lame duck Congressmen and women chatting in the background under the anonymous source sign--and how much of this is seriously President Obama's personal discussions on the topic.
and I guess ultimately I hope that maybe if President Obama does feel the need to update the Patriot Act he will at the very least be more open with the public about why he feels that way and/or explain that he thought the entire process through and made executive decisions to keep us all safe---rather than just declaring himself dictator in chief and saying pay attention to the daily color changes buy some duct tape and a helmet and try not to freak out too much.

Well this is BS but saying it like this was all the work of president Obama IS also BS. the Cops of America ( a name I made up) want to have these powers to make their jobs easyer and they lobby hard for these types of powers all the time and will claim that so and as politician does not support law enforcment if the politician does not capitulate. However this is rediculess they have the ability already to employ whatever decription or other eavsedroping equipment currently available as long as they bring probable cause before a judge and get a warrent. This is them trying to circumvent the oversight that law enforcement needs to remain uncorrupted.

-------" Your Golden Hero wants to eavesdrop on your private conversations."----
And he is able to do it because of the patriotic and humanitarian efforts of such heroes as George W. Bush, Dick Chenney, and the Republican Party--the wonderful folks who gave us The Patriot Act, rescinding the Constitution of United States and the Bill of Rights.
Thanks guys!
So, what is the change that we can believe in? Are the Republicans going to repeal the The Patriot Act II ?
Are the Republicans going to reverse the clause that says private companies can not be sued over liabilities from illegal disclosures of information to government agencies that acted illegally to gather and use private information? That is a clause of Patriot Act II inserted after the Supreme Court declared actions by the FBI and a number of other agencies violated the principles of unreasonable search and seizure and due process.

Well he voted for FISA and telecom immunity, it isn't entirely surprising.

I must admit, this one bothers me and I don't really get personal email. Some friends send me funny, or inspirational emails, but I don't communicate via email. I learned very young, don't put anything on paper that you don't want someone else to read. I guess that's changed to 'don't put anything in your computer that you don't want someone else to read.

As of today Obama hasn't listened to anything the American public has had to say about anything. So why would he want to tap in to our computers ? I know why but I don't think he really cares one bit about what we think as people, because we are way below him, we are racist, fear mongers, morons, there are a hundred things we have been called by the Democrats in office. I have never seen any Administration in history call the general public like this group has done. They are in office for one thing and one thing only, themselves. They could care less what happens to the American people !!! They seem to thumb their noses at the little people, and talk down to every single one of us. Change we can believe in !!!! Ya got what you voted for.

What are you talking about? It was and continues to be the Republicans who use every opportunity possible to twist President Obama's words or to blame him because some old school most likely Republican spooks were overheard chatting and it made the news on yahoo of all places.
you said quote "So why would he want to tap in to our computers ? I know why but I don't think he really cares one bit about what we think as people, because we are way below him, we are racist, fear mongers, morons, there are a hundred things we have been called by the Democrats *I say replace this one word with Republicans* in office. I have never seen any Administration in history call the general public like this group has done. They are in office for one thing and one thing only, themselves."
Yep sounds exactly like the 8 years we had under the Supreme Court appointed--who gives a fuck if gasoline is over $4.50 a gallon while nothing is happening in the world--you're doing a heck of a job Brownie, let's fight two illegal immoral wars with countries that had absolutely zero to do with the 9/11 attacks while staging our operations out of the country that the 9/11 hijackers were actually from -- and when the heat in DC gets to hot I'll just take my ball and go back to my ranch in Texas--who cares if my VP committed attempted murder and treason--President George W. Bush.
I also say seriously lay off watching Glenn Beck and Fox News you just proved it rots your brain and erases your ability to critically think.

Close to 3000 people in New York, a few hundred at the Pentagon, and a plane load in Pennsylvania gave their lives in order to ensure the Patriot Act passed. The Governments allow circumstances to evolve to the point that the people demand their rights be infringed upon. The Ideals of Personal Freedom, that was the founding philosophy of our country, is gone. Replaced by Corporate greed, that has usurped our Democracy. While we race around town, consuming said Corporation's goods and services.

Really smegma rag. It is my opinion that the ''Act'' was stalling in it's movement (unlike your angry retort) through the Government, 911 goes down and it passes easily. Infringing our rights (sic). To protect us from a threat, actions overseas for Oil incurred. I also believe Our government was involved (by complacency) in the attacks, to instill fear in the public. Further eroding our ''rights'' and swelling bank accounts (through the resulting conflicts) of the then President's circle of Corporations. By the way, I didn't spend my life amassing knowledge to provide your lazy *ss with links.

The Patriot Act wasn't even proposed until a week after the attacks.
"The USA PATRIOT Act (commonly known as the "Patriot Act") is an Act of the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001. The title of the Act is a contrived acronym, which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001."

The left wing media will barely bat an eye at this either. When Bush&co tried to do this the NewYork Times had pages devoted to calling him out. With the messiah however now it seems ok for the president to listen into what ever your grandma is talking about.

This shows how dumb the FBI is. The best encryption software, and most common, is programed outside the US.
OpenSSL, OpenSSH, OpenBSD, PuTTY, Linux, and I think Truecrypt are all based outside the US, there are others as well. Most Internet servers use OpenSSL as does Opera Browser and our government relies on it as well. They even certified it for use on sensitive information.
The reason why is that we used to prevent the export of strong encryption, so open source programmers moved and started anew. They didn't come back when that law was lifted either.
Since they do not operate here and since they are open source and hence do not sell the software they would not be covered under this law.

That is pure stupidity.
Don't these people realize how the internet works?
The only people who use regular, mainstream communication systems are regular, mainstream people. The bad guys use communication systems on servers located overseas, where the government can't get to them.
It's easy to set one up, with a web forum type interface with a proprietary internal email system, so the whole terrorist cell can keep in touch without anyone being able to stop them.
How do you think the Torrent websites stay alive?
And the pedophiles?Tapping gmail and hotmail just annoys us regular folk who use gmail and hotmail.
And BTW- that last paragraph was beneath you.

Your excellent points raise the question as to why our fellow citizens wish to tap our communications. They want to control information. There is no limit to the greed and ambition of the people who control our national security apparatus; they are not concerned with the safety of the public- they are chiefly concerned with manipulating information to serve the interests of the companies for whom they will become lobbyists the moment they retire from "Homeland Security."
Regarding my choice of words to describe the Dried Turd in the Big Office- I was going easy on him. He reminds me of Tar Baby in the "Uncle Remus" tales: ideas go in but nothing substantive comes out which has not been smeared with the tar of weak compromise. Obama is happily smirking his way into further ineffectiveness as the country slides into the porcelain bowl. How's that for metaphor? Pretty good, eh?
