Iron Man-style suit "to feature in war within 5 years"

The XOS2 suit (pronouced "exos") allows the user to carry 11 stone (70kg) without breaking a sweat and punch through four planks of wood at once. Annoyingly, it won't be easy for any budding vigilantes to get their hands on one; it's being developed for the military with two applications in mind. The combat variant will be a waste-down suit designed to help with supporting heaving backpacks, while the logistics version is a full suit intended to be used for carrying supplies and heavy equipment, like tank shells.
Test engineer Rex Jameson, from Raytheon, the company behind the suit said: "If you push at the boards (planks), you are, like, "I'm never going to be able to do that" but then you walk up and do it and away they go."

As many have noted, I agree this would likely be a good way to get the enemy's attention. All of this peak technology seems to be most useful as a distraction. Paradox?

Pfft. Tony Stark pissed on this suit whilst working in a cave. Plus Ironman has super sonic flight capabilities and energy based weapons. The armed forces would be better off creating humanoid drones.

Suits like that will be good for heavy lifting... combat not so much. It looks overly complex and not too reliable. Im still waiting for the day when combat armor looks like this.

Its actually Halo Concept art haha. But yeah i know all about the Land Warrior system. It was "canceled" but a simpler version of the system was actually field tested by the Army in Iraq some time ago and now its a part of the Future Force Warrior program. Cool stuff indeed.

Just thought I'd share:
A young person pointed out your comment to me and said,' i guess she don't get it, we need tech to have a secure operations...don't ya think?'
I responded-
It reminds me of how cartoons used to focus on 'fighting evil' 60s- 80's, now it is about the best weapon...Agreed, it is sad that every form of 'new' tech is demonstrated with solely military applications; conditioning immature minds to focus on things they have no direct control over and adapt to the military complex while ignoring the things individuals do have control over, self and the choices 'we' make like peace. This tech can be applied to a variety of manual specific tasks such as landscaping, masonry, construction .., yet it is not seen in such a manner only through the interpreters limited subjective conditioning...Kid says, without missing a beat,' Clone Wars is still cool.'
As I smile politely , I turn and think , 'Why protactinium a military perspective when surprise is such an effective tool; the hand that embraces such impetus rejects life and becomes the tool, for as long as one reaches...it becomes part of ; yet, 'we' all are.
Maybe I just think to much

Yes, "Iron Man-like" suit...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwltzypfxKU
If, by similar, they mean it is also made out of metal, then yes...
I think we're off by at least a good fifty, if not a hundred years, before we see anything like "Iron Man". And that would be the day I will start sh*tting my pants for real.

A similar version of this suit has existed for years. It WAS being used by farmers in Asia, though... believe it or not. I always knew it would end up on a battlefield. Sad.

When they first started talking about robotic suits on SlashDot 3-4 years ago it was commented on and thought it would be used in hospitals. The powers that be are just jerking the Current posters chain. Keep people upset, in an uproar, arguing, always arguing, to see who aligns with who.
It's their game. I mean, we're their game. Rifles come later, after they thin out the herd using Monsanto poisons. hahaha There was an episode on a TV show real popular 20-30 years ago, forget the name. These men would pay a large fee to hunt men, many times ex-military guys who would put up a good hunt experience.
Later on it was repeated in a movie also so it's a recurring theme with them.
They have shown us their heart.

At this stage,...you are very correct. (By and by however,...powered battle armor WILL be functional, effective, and go into military production. Its just a matter of when,...and how limited a production run.

LOL, how stupid. And like Calgar C said OLD.
Why don't they just send in a robot at that point? What's the point of having a person control it 'on site' on the battlefield at all once you get the robotics down? Just make it a remotely controlled robot.
