Generally speaking, electric train is more green and efficiency than plane.
But, considering the land occupation, it`s not easy to lay the rails in USA .
Not like in China, goverment can easily relocate the natives, and make room for the constructions.
All in all ,this is not a question about tech or money in USA.
It`s about human rights!
So , i think it is the two side of the coin, sustainablity or human rights,
what`s your choice? - 1 year ago

Also who cares if airlines are bankrupt?
a Boeing 747 burns approximately 36,000 gallons over a 10 hour flightthat's about 5 MPG, i know planes carry many people but still dude.

high speed trains in the us would be wonderful.
greater public transportation could actually solve the major problem of oil however there is one huge difference:
NATIONAL SAVINGSUSA: -$13 TRILLION 55% of GDP to public debt
CHINA: $3 TRILLION +http://www.roubini.com/asia-monitor/253064/just_how_much_money_does_china_have__...

Delicious , this is a human right issue . Do you like to breathe clean air ? This is a non fossil fuel future , if we embrace it . It could replace most airplanes , and is a good long term investment for humanity and the earth .

If these trains were introduced in the US, the airline industry would surely go bankrupt.
In less than 10 years and at a fraction of the coast of our war on terror and for oil
the Chinese took the Japanese Bullet train and turned it in to a snail train!
this 259MPH comes from the one they built to run at 218MPH the next one is being built as we sit on our hands for 310MPH but will probably do 400 thats coast to coast in 10 hours or less faster than air + security check and cheaper to will we get it? ...do we GET IT! - 1 year ago

It may seem expensive in isolation , but consider this , We would spend far less money and lives in war for oil , if we didn't need so much . It puts this idea WAY AHEAD in savings of lives and money . The country that does this will be a super power . It will thrive because of energy independence . It will have cleaner air and superior travel and this will help commerce flow ... into a strong economy .

High speed rail would serve the public VERY WELL in many parts of this country as a substitute for airlines. ( Australia to. Like big ol China )

Why do we not have this in america??? public transportation is an amazing idea, no traffic, no need to buy cars or waste money on gas. less deaths. The list goes on yet we still have billions of cars in the U.S. because our government decides when we are and are not a free market. F*** you America f*** you

The US was the last developed country to get a high speed train... and we only have one:

Fuck the airlines. I hate them! I want a vacuum-tubed, global maglev train!! (capable of speeds of around 2,000 MPH in a vacuum!) It's never actually been built... but we could do it if we weren't so busy arguing about mosques and weed.
Some day...

Good question . How could they sell CARS and GAS and oil and parts for them , if there were trains everywhere ? The U.S. Is fallen behind , soon we will be like any other 3rd world country ......

ha I like that "If we weren't so bust arguing about mosques and weed". I think part of the reason why we dont have it because we ask for change but never do anything our selfs, we sit on our asses and wait for somone to make the change for us. Oil companies and car companies that lobby political leaders would not allow the senate to pass anything for mass public transportation. Another reason would how can we convince ourselves to get rid of our cars for something better? people dont like change even if they know it is better.

Well If we didnt give those car companies money to save their asses then there would be millions unemployed, millions that could start building high speed trains parts and railways. We no longer live in a free market if government thinks that having these cars around is a good thing. They are just sell outs and its pathetic

The oil and auto lobbies in the US would never let this happen here. It's not what's good for the country and its citizens, it's what's good for the people in power and how they can best maintain that power.
