Wasn't these predictions of exponential growth of technology already mentioned by Ray Kurzweil?

Watching this clip and the escalating numbers is like evolution. When I saw the part about the information a student learns in first year being outdated by the third year something inside of me clicked. The way the mechanisms of the mind used to work. The fright/flight mechanism in animal's brains etc. It seems like we are teaching ourselves to think like a "less evolved" species though like backward evolution..Learn what we need for the moment and then forget it quickly as it becomes obsolete. This way we don't clog our thoughts with unnecessary information we don't need for survival. I suppose this is the survival of the most Technically fit. Give me a garden.

Well they did get the amount of memory for a DVD wrong, it's 4 gig not 8.7 for a movie and 8 gig not 35 for a Blue-Ray.

there are dual layer dvd's that are 8.7 gig and those are the ones movies come on

no for standard dvd movies they are called dvd9 which are 8.7gig and the 4.7gig are called dvd5 and those are the standard dvd's used for burning...I wasn't even talking about the dual layer blu rays

But that's not what the memory that is required since you can fit a standard movie on a 4.7 gig DVD, I do it all the time.
And they certainly don't need 35 gig DVD to fit a Blue-Ray movie on

Yah but when you fit that movie on a single 4.7 dvd5 you are usually losing a lil bit in quality and only using 1 audio stream...and you are also cutting out the trailers in the beginning..so no a typical dvd9 doesn't just fit on a dvd5 unless you are cutting things here and there

Then you must be doing it wrong

That doesn't happen when I do it, probably with better codecs and programs that allow a proper transfer to DVD

Actually I did know that since 1977 when Cosmic Trigger was published.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_Trigger
But there are some other factors that are dragging down those exponential processes since the effects should be more evident by now
In the latest McGraw-Hill poll, the majority predicted that by A.D. 2000 we will have: drugs to cure cancer, artificial eyesight for the blind, drugs to permanently increase intelligence, chemical control of aging, chemical control of senility, successful cryogenic preservation.
The McKenna scenario is somewhat more dramatic han the exponential accelerations suggested by Henry Adams, Korzybski, Fuller, Toffler and even Leary, because, within the McKenna theory, all of the 64 time-scales peak together. That is, they assert:
a 4,300-year cycle from urbanization to the dawn of modern science;
a 384-year cycle in which science has caused more upsurge of novelty than in that 4,300 cycle;
a 67-year cycle (from technological breakthroughs of the 1940s, to the peak in 2012) in which there will be more acceleration than there was between Galileo and Hiroshima;
a 384-year cycle in 2011-2012 when there will be more tranformations than in all the previous cycles;
a 6-day cycle at the end of that in which things will move even faster; and so on, down to a grand climax in which, as they say,
in the last 135 minutes, 18 such barriers will be crossed, 13 of them in the last 75 X 10(-4) seconds.That is, in the last two hours before Peak, we will achieve 18 extensions of consciousness and power, each one comparable to the passing from sea to land or from Earth to Space. And in the last .0075 seconds of the Great Cycle we will pass through 13 such transformations.

kennymotown:
Since those exponential processes are from the Lower Right Quadrant, the factors that are putting on the brakes must be from the Lower Left Quadrant.
http://integrallife.com/learn/quadrants/how-it-all-fits-together-quadrants
Robert Anton Wilson wrote the Cosmic Trigger before Integral Theory was developed so he didn't include the other factors.
the quadrants are simply the inside and the outside of the individual and the collective, and the point is that all 4 quadrants need to be included if we want to be as integral as possible.
All 4 quadrants show growth, development, or evolution. That is, they all show some sort of stages or levels of development, not as rigid rungs in a ladder but as fluid and flowing waves of unfolding. This happens everywhere in the natural world, just as an oak unfolds from an acorn through stages of growth and development, or a Siberian tiger grows from a fertilized egg to an adult organism in well-defined stages of growth and development.
Likewise with humans in certain important ways. We have already seen several of these stages as they apply to humans. In the Upper Left or “I,” for example, the self unfolds from egocentric to ethnocentric to worldcentric, or body to mind to spirit. In the Upper Right, felt energy phenomenologically expands from gross to subtle to causal. In the Lower Left, the “we” expands from egocentric (“me”) to ethnocentric (“us”) to worldcentric (“all of us”). This expansion of group awareness allows social systems—in the Lower Right—to expand from simple groups to more complex systems like nations and eventually even to global systems.

That's why there is a difference between the upper and lower quadrants because the factors are different for the individual than the collective.

OK, I get that part. But what about this 18 extensions of consciousness of power, is that as a whole or, our energy per individual?

Complete "ends" to all things,.....and "accelerations" beyond ALL experience known before,......tend not to happen much,.....uhm,....save to mystics and schizophrenics,....
"Ah ha" moments of genius,......( sex? ).....but it IS all relative to sense of scale.
- - -this is NOT to say it CANT happen to cultures. . .BEER. I need it. This sort of conversation virtually demands it.
p.s. Robert Anton Wilson - bad-ass of the mind
'nuff said
p.p.s. - artists try to jump THAT hoop a LOT; still a "practice practice practice" ritual+^d of course

I'm in highschool and i don't see it getting any better, the teachers blame the parents, the parents blame the teachers, administration blames students. Its almost comical to watch my school try and survive with no funds and horrible AYP, we can barely afford food for lunch. Soon the public school system will desentigrate and well all be back to the 1800's were the only educated people were the wealthy people.

Hopefully we can get funding for schools corrected by the time you graduate. I'm not a guidance counselor but I would say whatever your interests are find a school or trade school that teaches that desired field and that school should be a 1 or 2 year program, and one that offers you the ability to come back for more education whenever your job requires.
