I look forward to the next series where the reincarnation cycle ends in the Demon Castle Wars of 1999. The endings setting was based on the modern era giving rise to that probabilty that Dracula will end his cycle in 1999. (With Julius Belmont and other vampire hunters.)
About his real identity, I believe that as he doesn't really have a real name, he might have picked his own name (closest to what they believe was his real family name) as Mathias Cronqvist. And the next stories proceed onwards.
Of course this is all hypothetical, we have to see the dates and possibility of another character (two Draculas would be weird but cool)

If you look in the extras section under artwork and go to epilogue it clearly says that he is indeed Dracula, that person in the artwork looks exactly like Gabriel/Dracula from the ending video after the credits. So I believe that Gabriel is indeed Dracula.

Well that Castlevania takes place just a little before lament of inocence because they talk about Rinaldo Gandolfi who forged the combat cross and the the Leon Belmont whip.
Theorically....Dracula is supposed to be Mathias Cronqvist. His dead wife was named Elisabetha so....Gabriel took the name of Belmont because his dead wife was Marie Belmont. But there is a possibility that he's part of the cronqvist family.
There is rumors that Gabriel can be Alucard but.....not prooved yet. - 1 year ago

I just beat the game last night and my head was spinning. I think your explanation makes sense. I still have many questions.

I haven't even played this and it sounds interesting. Nicely convoluted.
