Plastic is everywhere. If wood would take its place there wouldn't be any trees left in the world. It can't be done in a sustainable manner, it's an oxymoron.
The only answer, like mentioned above, is HEMP. It can substitute wood, plastic, fuel and can be used in hundreds of ways sustainably and ecologically.
The oil, logging industries and politic stand in the way of this, and it's never too late to change it. - 1 year ago

Can we really afford to cut down more trees? Hemp can be used to make plastic and paper and it doesn't take years and years to grow. Plus, it's 100% biodegradable.
The legalization of hemp for industry could mean jobs, jobs, jobs! Plus, we need our trees!

Conniepae:
The lumber industry has actually change drastically over the last decades. They realize that harvesting trees in cyclical cycle is cost effective thus also producing a self stabilizing industry where more and more trees aren't lost.
Of course there are people that abuse the abundant of trees in the rain forest and such. But plastic is made from petroleum (oil) so it's an even trade off I think. Plus it's a lot easier to stop someone from lumbering then it is to change the world to stop producing so much plastic.
