On the day that MPs voted to increase uni fees to £9,000 and scrapping of EMA, a group of students are used Google Maps to inform fellow protesters of police whereabouts

UPDATES BELOW IN COMMENTS

Today's generation of youth protests is using digital technology far more to remain organized, safe and up to date with any changes. Of course, this does rely on a good web connection on a mobile if they're moving in police kettling.

@UCLOccupation has been tweeting its occupations of university campases in protest against the tuition rise.
However, they are now linking to Google maps, which informs protesters about police movement fro helicopters to where horses are.

Will this give them an edge over the police communications? Hopefully it won't cause a 'flash mob gone wrong' situation, since the speed and how easy it is.

With the anon opp the tech based protest communications and wikileaks it does look like the internet has really changed politics for a younger generation.

"Latest statement from New Scotland Yard at 20.00 on 9 December 2010

Police completely condemn the outrageous and increasing levels of violence that some of the protesters are now involved in.

This has nothing to do with peaceful protest, students are involved wanton vandalism including smashing windows in Oxford and Regent Streets. Innocent Christmas shoppers are being caught up in the violence and disruption.

It has gone so far that a car that the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall were travelling in through the West End was attacked. Police managed the situation and they were unharmed.

There have now been 15 arrests:

      - eight for violent disorder

      - two for arson

      - two for assault on police

      - one for criminal damage

      - one for drunk and disorderly

      - one for theft "Police made a statement about the protest http://cms.met.police.uk/news/policy_organisational_news_and_general_information...

Chunks of concrete blocks with metal wire poking out being thrown at police.

Tweets on protest moving to Oxford Street

      Injures from both sides

BBC theoried with cuts it is likely they'll be more protests by other groups.

Big question what will happen to the Lib Democrats after this. Students mainly vote for them but many of their MP voted for this rise for the coalition.
