i was a well logger on geothermal sites in western idaho. the potential for making hydrogen fuel for next to nothing from hot rocks has been available from at least the mid 70's(when i was on those rigs).
we punched 2 dozen wells to hot rock and just capped them off. the government paid 1/2 a million a hole to phillips petro for exploration of possibility of use. i know at that time that many geothermal wells were in production in arizona and more were being slated to start drilling shortly. i wanted in on the arizona sites but they told me, there is no place for a drunken indian on a sober crew. oh well, i could drink to that.
the point is, we have the potential to run all the cars in the west off of h2 fuel from the geothermal wells that are just capped off, hidden and waiting until the oil is gone. - 1 year ago

That region and parts of Montana , Utah and Oregon is called the "batholith" area . Peppered with hot springs and free energy that is UNTAPED .

Hydrogen as a fuel source sounds fantastic in theory, but how could an infrastructure be implemented in the U.S.? I understand that their are numerous ways to generate it from electrolysis in fuel cells, to geothermal, and even algae and other organisms, whether they be natural or synthesized in the future. We are also developing materials on the nano scale to aid in safer storage. But what kind of infrastructure would have to be put into effect? In my opinion, it seems like there's too much of an overhaul in infrastructure to make it happen anytime soon. Any ideas?

right you are. i was using h2 as an example but it is a poor choice for chemical, energy storage. hydrogen has the smallest atom and will leak through stainless steel, eventually.

Is there no way to store H2?

no fair. they're sitting on top of a magma chamber. if they didn't use geothermal they wouldn't just be stupid but broke.

Yikes! Thank you for pointing that out to me. Now all I have to do is figure out how to edit the title.
