Rumours are on the web the next iPad will be annouced in the next 3-4 weeks after a blog post by the Digg founder Kevin Rose. He also hinted the possible upgrades which wil lfeature on the second edition of the iPad
"Writing on his blog, Rose said that ‘I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next "3-4 weeks", possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras."-Metro
However, the article states speculation for a new release this year is already out, going by the patterns of Apples new releases and upgrades.
