Under questioning by police, 34-year-old Shannon Johnson admitted that she placed her 13 months old baby in the bath tub to bathe alone while she went to the living room to play World Café.
According to the affidavit, when Johnson didn't hear any sound from the baby after 10 mins, she went to the bathroom only to find the baby slumped face down in the tub.
When the police reached Johnson's house, they found her Facebook logged in. In her clarification, she told police that she used to leave the baby in the bathtub unattended because he was "independent" and she didn't want him to be a "mama's boy."
Even Johnson's mother said that he had warned her daughter about leaving the baby unattended especially after he had a seizure a month before he died.
Johnson admits that it was "stupid" on her part to leave the baby alone. She faces up to 48 years in prison if convicted.

I'm not sure what is more pathetic... the mother's excuse or that she was trying to excuse herself from letting her child die.

There was a similar story to this awhile back, involving Farmville.

its funny, cuz i dont have kids.and i find that in my travels and conversations at some point im always asked if i have kids, and when i say no, i get a response as if to say "why not" as if i just should.yet i know full well, and i think the current community would agree, i have no earthly right to having children.i know im a mess, and there fore not in a position to sheppard another life.
if i have kids, i satisfy what seems to be a social standard pushed on me at some level.if i dont im looked down upon as some sort of selfish person who isnt doing thier part like everyone else.we seem to lack a real sense of responsability to this, as more people shouldnt give me the benefit of the doubt that i would be a good parent, when i know full well i would much rather be stoned than meet a childs needs.
better to not have kids, than be that guy who got high on a saturday night after the kids went to sleep and was ineffective at helping them when they got deathly ill in the middle of the night.forward thinking seems to be not valued amongst us.

on the topic of abortion, i wonder if anyone has ever asked these kinds of kids.... like, would this kid have rather died as a potentially microscopic group of cells, or as a living and feeling 13 month old? or to those kids who have been abused their whole lives, would they have rather just died as a fetus rather then endure the years and years of abuse? its something interesting to think about...

What a moron.
I always hate how the news treats stories like this though. They're always like "IS THE INTERNET DANGEROUS!?!?!?!?" No, morons having babies are dangerous. I am kinda surprised that 'Zuck' with all his billions didn't pay the news to report "woman played 'website' game as son drowned"

Perhaps that is true, but there is a reoccurring theme where Facebook is concerned. Not to say that it, in and of itself, is the issue. It is, however, something that is firmly taking hold of people. It's chancing our society without question.

Anyone that asserts that their 13 month baby is "independent and likes to be left alone" neglected this kid more than just on this occasion. Some people should not have children.

I hope she is charged with murder! This is so wrong. Those games are addicting, just as bad as any drugs. While you are playing you release dopamine. You are the only controller of the amount you produce, but it is hard to control your craving it when your body is used to having a certain amount.
