Hack Your Door to Lock and Unlock via Text Message

bundlebear
Keys are so last century. Hack your door to lock and unlock via text messages.

Billy Chasen wanted to ditch his keys and control the door to his office via text messaging. He built a simple device which consists of a tiny web server, a servo motor, and some parts from Home Depot. The end product, although a bit hacked together looking for lack of a case covering up the guts, has total control over the locking mechanism of the door. He can lock and unlock the door, add people to a whitelist to grant access to coworkers, and otherwise modify the door control by modifying the tiny embedded web server.

    • Nope...sorry, give me an old fashion key. At least if I lose it then my address or phone number cannot be found, I can make another (have a spare), and know that aside from a break in, no one else has the possibility of gaining access to the inside but me.

    • I can't wait until this is common practice.
Wouldn't it be great if you ever locked your keys in your car (or house) and then were able to get them by sending a text to unlock the door!
No more bent coat hangers, and crawling through windows :)
