There are 2 million farmers and 300 million consumers in the US. Standing in between are a handful of companies who control how food gets from one side to the other.
In 2010, the USDA and Dept of Justice are holding a series of hearings on this issue -- the matter of corporate concentration in food and agriculture. The first hearing was March 12, in Ankeny, Iowa. The night before, about 250 independent family farmers and community activists gathered for a town hall meeting to share their own experiences with big ag.

Monsanto now has enough evidence against round up and rr seeds that it has a new strategy;new gmos that work with the old ag chemicals.Coming soon 2-4d gmo seed.2-4D is one of the old herbicides that people thought had gone the way of the horse and buggy,Monsanto is bringing back.

Great post as always Jan. I am going to copy off the story about the new round-up pathogen and give it to my round-up friendly neighbor. He is a great old man but he has been sold a bill of goods. I have been looking for the right ammunition to convince him that round-up is not earth friendly.

White bread culture with a little Tang. It just seems absurd to them that the government would allow something bad to be marketed. "Like shit, I thought that was what the USDA was for. Hell they are recommending it."
It drives me mad but I have to look for the communication tools that will impact them personally. Making their animals or loved ones sick fits the bill. He lectured me for a half hour one day on how inert Round-up is. I don't eat his food but other then that he is a wonderful man who would help anyone he could.

My wife and I have an organic farm. At first we were laughed at by the old timers. Now they come to us and ask advice. Our mission is one small farm at a time.

Sadly this isn't on the top of anybody's political list of 'to dos'. My wife and I have been moving towards a total organic food supply and are lucky enough to have one of the best farmer's market near us. After watching Food Inc., we have most certainly stepped up those efforts. I really had no idea Monsanto (and a few others like them) were inflicting this type of damage in so many areas. I can only say if you haven't seen this film yet, you need to!
Personally, I don't think we can wait around for politicians to forge the path in this arena and it is up to us as individuals to start making a statement with the products we purchase. I would much rather pay a few extra bucks to the local organic farmers than purchase chemically saturated products for these soulless corporations.

I agree, on the whole politicians are useless regarding this. Rep Kucinich has introduced bills, but they sit there. It is outrageous how little attention this gets. We'll have to change that.

Thank you Jan, you are a sweetie!!!
Please continue your updates and pepper them liberally with your favorite links.
I know very little about these issues, but I very much want to learn more. I hope I can count on you.
Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Also, screw Gates, Monsanto, and all the predatory multinational market based agricultural schemes.

Genetically modified crops are no different from the genetically engineered vaccines that have produced so many new diseases since the 60s, from AIDS to autism.

With the exception of those genetically modified plants which they haven't made sterile, and are escaping into the natural environment polluting the original and native gene pool. It's a very improbable task to eliminate a contaminated gene pool in the wild, once it occurs. Genes restricting the ability to cross pollinate the modified with the non modified, should be added to otherwise genetically modified plants.

True! But Monsanto is just one member of the League Of Giant Thug Corporations, who are intent on enslaving, and owning without patents, humankind, and have done so to a very large degree in the U.S.
However, all of these corporations together are not as powerful as the people of the United States when we all stand up together and march, and fight those who attempt to oppress us.
Have you made a list of all things Monsanto, and it's affiliates, that can be sent around for all of us to boycott?

If you've never seen the devastating documentary called "The World According to Monsanto", here's your chance. The documentary lays bare the epitome of globalized corporate greed.
The Frankenstein contamination of our global food supply must be stopped. It's too bad the Republicans, and Obama and his choice for Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, support further tainting of the food supply. "Putting all our eggs in one basket" apparently is of no concern to them.

Good post wT. It makes me think that corps like Monsanto ARE; (a reluctant admission to Thomas Roberts), like people in some ways. They have greed in their innate nature, which is the a collectivel flaw of republicans. In Monsanto's case, however, the greed of being profit driven is anticipated as a chief characteristic. We anticipate that evolved human and social behavior would suppress republican's run away greed.
But even more, your post leaves me wondering whether we should not turn the brunt of our ire from Monsanto to the E.P.A., D.O.A as well as the F.D.A.? The lunacy of this situation is, that every death which we hold industry accountable for, we should also hold our government officials accountable for. As with every offense, negligent or otherwise, committed by government officials against the people, do we not need a more effective way of holding them accountable? Without better accountability, it will be very difficult to discourage abuse of the people by negligent or corrupt government officials.

Thank you Jan, I am going to read this letter from
COL (Ret.) Don M. Huber
Emeritus Professor, Purdue University
APS Coordinator, USDA National Plant Disease Recovery System (NPDRS)This is the first I have read/heard concerning this, and it needs to be passed around.
As always, thanks for your continued stand to help others learn more about this dangerous and untested territory of the bio-industry. Of course, like you say, they only have one purpose in mind, that is selling products (poisoned) and making profits, at any cost to species health. criminals.
