Caused by a combination of solar and lunar effects because we live in a solar system, not a bio-dome, surrounded by gigantic, spinning magnets, emitting electromagnetic forces, affecting the earth. Not anthropogenic global warming.

the earth naturally makes oil, scientists have recreated it in europe... now, why would the earth do that, it has to be there for a reason, maybe a layer to keep the heat from the core of the earth from escaping... well I dont know, what I do know is that saying that the oil is there because of dinosaur fossils is just silly

One click up... shows a bit better the concentration of quakes. 545 total in the last week. Northern Japan got one at 6.1 just today.

Notice how the quake depths are all in the same range. And Bolivia had one some 250 miles deep. I did not know quakes happened that deep nor did I know our equipment detected them. I guess hmm, I'm just plain quake ignorant then. But I have a few other somewhat redeeming qualities.

Earthquakes are routine in Japan. So it was a good idea to build a bunch of nuclear reactors along their shore line?

considering the one everyone is worried about was in operation for over 40 years old without any earthquake or tsunami problems I don't think anyone thought it a bad idea for a long time. But seriously this was one of those once in a millennium type quakes coupled with disasterous tsunami. Of course they didn't expect that. Who would? The damn thing shifted the earth's axis for god sakes!

Yes, along the shoreline, so when push comes to shove they call in the bulldozer fellas and shove all the nuclear plants into the oceans for the whales to deal with. And the sardines, and manatees, and whatever other seafood we decide it's time to kill.

Hey! That's an idea worth exploring! Build nuclear power plants and put em on RAILROAD TRACKS so when they decide to go ballistic hot just push a button and dunk em in the ocean water, lake water, river water or the POND OUT BACK WATER.

I am not sure what your definition of "powerful" is, but it is estimated "that about 700 shocks each year may be sufficiently strong to cause property damage, death, and injury when centered in a populated area."

Here's a good animation of all the Japan quakes. Note the 9.0 quake was actually an 'aftershock' to several large quakes in the days before:
