Climate change: is there an app for that?

Can the iPhone stop climate change?

Maybe not, but the UN's International Telecommunication Union is offering $10,000 as a prize for the most innovative climate-change-related app.

Of course, there are lots of apps out there already that can help you minimize your impact on the planet. You can check product information in the Good Guide, or find a place to drop your recycling with iRecycle. Need to get there? Track your car's fuel usage with greenMeter, or use iTrans to look up the public transit in your area -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg for apps to help you make your life greener.

Do you use apps to help you be more green? What do you think would take a climate-change-focused app to the next level?
