Super-Civilizations Might Live Off Black Holes : Discovery News

The sad unplugging of the Allen Telescope Array due to lack of funding brings a screeching halt, at least temporarily, to the most ambitious search for "hello" radio transmissions from E.T.

But perhaps it's time to simply think far outside of the box regarding our preconceptions of how to find extraterrestrial civilizations, says Clement Vidal of the Evolution, Complexity and Cognition group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. And, the most advanced aliens may be the easiest to find.

In a recent paper, he emphasizes that we have to look at a variety of search strategies in solving the mystery of our cosmic loneliness -- that is, if we are satisfied with simply finding E.T. and not communicating with it.

Vidal's reasoning: The universe is so old there have to be far-advanced civilizations out there, billions of years more evolved than us. They have to be doing super-human engineering feats that are recognizable across intergalactic space. "Super-human" might also mean that the most advanced life-forms could very likely be post-biological. They have evolved far beyond being creatures of flesh and blood, as described in Arthur C. Clarke's "2001:A Space Odyssey."

What defines a super-civilization? In 1964, Russian astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev proposed a scheme for classifying technologically advanced alien societies. A Type I civilization uses energy resources on a planet-wide scale, like us. A Type II civilization would have 10 billion times more energy available by trapping the total output of its central star -- perhaps by building a shell around it called a Dyson sphere. A Type III civilization would tap the energy resources of an entire galaxy -- only God knows how! This would give a further increase to power available by at least a factor of 10 billion.

    • What if aliens are already here and we just don't know it because some of them look just like you and me. Haven't you guys been watching "V"?

In reality, what makes such a thing so impossible? I guess the biggest restraint would be our egos and the religions that fuel them. Everything we know or think we know is generally tainted by some religious belief (if you go back far enough). Many believe we are created in God's image and he of course is a white male right? What if we aren't created in his image and what if he isn't white and what if he is a woman or what if there are more than one. My point is this: All of these claims or assumptions are actually ego based and stem from some religious book or religious nuts opinion. In actuality, who really knows and who can really say and does it really matter?

Common sense or logic would lend credence to the possibility that there are literally billions or trillions or a far greater number of aliens or other life forms out there in the vast area we call space. The probability of this being a fact is so enormous. As to the thing they call the big bang theory, well what if it has happened a trillion times in a trillion different places? Space is big enough for such occurrences since there is no beginning and no end to space. If there is a beginning and an end then what lies on the other side of the beginning and the end? The human mind and ego is so meager that the inability to conceive such a thing makes it run and hide behind some safe and secure book or steeple.

Religiously speaking, think about what you claim to know and then ask yourself how do you really know it. No really,,, how do you really know it? So many things we have known in the past as being factual are constantly being updated to something else as more is discovered. Take a leap of faith, throw down your good books and let your inhibited minds run wild.

There appears to be some evidence that substantiates this as a possibility (orb at a cemetery). There is so much that we as humans don't know. Due to the abundance of our ignorance, so many are forced to cling to the breast of archaic, flat world principles mothered by religious fanaticism and succumb to the choke hold of tradition and traditional thought.

P.S. That which lies in creation is not controlled or governed by what man thinks or chooses to believe but their own personal reality is what falls into the hands of that fate.

There's more to life than the Republicans, their "economy" and how to get rid of them. Who said anything about communicating with the "Old Ones", and perhaps if we could communicate with them they might help us and/or advise us on how to solve the Republican and a myriad other problems plaguing humanity.

Brings to mind a Mormon belief that Jesus came from a planet travelling exactly in Earth's orbit, but halfway across so it was perpetually hidden behind the Sun. Under what "classification" would such a hypothetical civilization fit in? Of course, since we can see out there now, and probably actually looked (you never know), and know there's nothing there, an additional "cloaking" ability, or some other form of invisibility, must be a characteristic of that "civilization."

Gawd created the world 6015 years ago, Bishop Ussher proved this to be true, and all the "Stuff" you claim is "Out There" is nothing more than props created by Beelzebub to turn the humans away from the Path of the Reichous.

If you don't understand that by now......................well, I don't know what to say, except maybe:

      And then what?
Have you noticed all the things that surround you are made out of oil?

Lets stop this ridiculous ideas that "by year 3000 thousand we will be all over the galaxy" when really, humanity has a really dim future by 2020.

As the tendency goes... it is more likely we are going to the dark ages, rather than flying up the stars.

No, the universe is not fairly young, our solar system is however. The universe is about 14.7 billiion years old, while our solar system, which is probably a second or third generation occurrance, is only about 4.6 billion years old. There is definitely a possibility of "more advanced life" further out on the frindge.

Which statement? It is hard to link which one you mean in this type of forum sometimes.....If you mean the one about them "not contacting us" because we are such a impossible (and potentially dangerous) species; yeah, semi-serious, semi-tongue-in-cheek.

If you mean my last post to GM, I don't consider it a disease no....it maybe a partial step towards our eventual evolution out of the vast majority of NT's into an actual race of thinkers. :-)

If indeed, Einstein, Tesla, Mozart, Edison, etc. were AS, we may be headed in a different direction then the "one two three, kick" working to live, class that has dominated the world of thinkers recently. :-)

Of course, there is that little problem of "the conservation of energy " i.e. you'd use so much energy to accomplish your task, you wouldn't have anything left over. Far easier it would be to use the oceans, currents and waves to generate energy....it is already available and in motion; we just have to tap more of it.

    • If some new invention or power source was discovered that would benifit all mankind, we'll never know about it. Either that or it will only be available to the super wealthy.

Lets take back our country and have it benifit the people who really matter. Us, the middle class, the poor. The super rich can move to Europe where they can live a better life.

You are correct many times over. Lightning Energy was harnessed (in design) in 1989 and submitted to the US Dept. of Energy, and rejected. I used an Epson dot matrix printer and they didn't read it. They were used to college-level submissions.

What I later came to find out is they did the same then as is common => they let the submissions set for a requisite SIX WEEKS then like clockwork a rejection form is sent out [some and many times so they can work on it without interference from the stupid American inventor trying to provide for {yuck} his family].

I have traveled a long road and this has been our bread to eat. My sons got sick from not getting fed well enough while young, and one fell to leukemia they said it was the vilest form, in 2006 at 26 years of age. They do more than murder your future they actually do commit real murder.

And that's who gets your tax monies every year, also like clockwork.

What has worked against them is that they chose to deny the obvious => that God was blessing me to reveal more than just one lone engine system. So when they kept the lightning system from the World (and you, and yours) so long ago, they thought I was a flash-in-the-pan their fish to fry like they fried so many before me. WRONG! They also thought they would kill me not just my son. WRONG! When they did succeed in killing me a shot of Power came into my dead body and I was raised back up to do MORE BATTLE WITH THE BEAST.

So in 2000 I had a new type of windmill and they stole it for another inventor to use in 3 inventions he had that needed it. They thought smashing my Ego in such a way would dishearten any man, but AGAIN THEY WERE WRONG.

I MASHED THE GAS AND KEPT ON GETTING BACK UP.
BY NOW THEY SURELY KNOW I HAVE DIVINE BACKING.

In 2005 18 months after my Air+Steam car engine that their D.O.E. once again refused you I had a superior device that is a "dry waterwheel". It replaces gravity energy flowing round water molecules with metal balls, much like the old PINBALL MACHINES it uses two opposed solenoids to fire them AWAY FROM EACH OTHER AT A COMBINED SPEED IN EXCESS OF THE SPEED OF LIGHT.

hehehe It is self-powered by firing the balls into curved arms that re-directs them back towards itself, and a system reset. The Lever-Arms magnify their Force to a generator that provides the next solenoid fire... so when the still-in-kinetic-motion balls strafe the base-mounted generator #2 the electricity it outputs is PURE GRAVY to run every device on Planet Earth. I called this one the "Millenial Dawn" and it BEATS THE LAW OF ENTROPY (System Degradation) by the balls being fully exhausted of all motion AT WHICH TIME THEY "TAKE ON" A NEW LOAD OF POTENTIAL ENERGY EVERY CYCLE.

hahahaha George Walker Bush the esteemed President of the United States of America had the audacity in a nationwide news conference to refer to engines like mine as => MAGIC WAND ENERGY. He told the nation to forget such high falutin' ideas because they didn't exist. Bush was one lying S.O.B. too but his attack against me didn't cost me a beat.

I've designed a number of Gravity Wheels that can turn electric generators and power your Home right now by Gravity, and other inventors also have made them. But the reason you aren't getting THEIRS is because their Bankers are holding them back from release waiting for the per kilowatt cost of electricity to increase.

American citizens are being played like a drum.

But my opponent is mighty so even though I showed a way to harness the Gravity of the ENTIRE PLANET LAST NOVEMBER 2010 => OCEAN ENERGY VIDEO HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apQTwE9daXs your opponent government still hangs onto the belated hope I will Cease Afflicting them blows delivered by God through me.

Yet once again two days ago I was blessed to suddenly understand how the "Wheel-Within-a-Wheel" could be an engine design for BOTH CARS AND STATIONARY POWER PLANTS. I could easily reveal it to you right now but then they would have it and YOU NEVER WOULD, so I have to keep it to myself this time.

But the point of all this long, 22-year battle was to prove they exist which I have by the Raise-from-the-Dead Grace of God Almighty. The shadow government stands naked in the interstate, kept alive by dutiful people paying their taxes to feed the Beast they decry. And he (the Beast) laughs at me for taking the [wasted] time to tell you, for they have [correctly] calculated they have poisoned you sufficiently through the ground water and drinking water with 65,000 chemicals, many of which DESTROYS A MAN'S TESTOSTERONE, SO THEY HAVE DELIVERED A CHEMICAL CASTRATION TO AMERICAN MALES.

You have been wimped down like they do to violent prison inmates.

The only one having the power to crush this serpent is Christ Jesus. The Anti-Christ's tricks that stop me will not stop Jesus. Their doom draws near. But what you all need to do is start praying more and voting less. Find a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses fast. John 17 v 3. The time for war is approaching. My engines were also given to prove Paradise always existed and therefore is soon to be re-instated. I hope you all buckle down and make it, every one of ya.

So far they have chosen the correct goblet. Anyway, they stay too busy with their multi-level Chess game controlling you all's futures, which inventions to allow and which not to allow. I imagine their sweat stays on them 24/7 doing that.

What I have does not require a big "meeting". It requires some money landing in my Checking account #162895. The person who does that sufficiently equal to my offer of new knowledge is the one who takes home the deer AND the bacon.

Be it made clear what I have can be implemented in a vastly much shorter time than new nuclear power plants ever could, from already-on-the-shelf parts mostly. It is a new technology made up of combining several older technologies so the stuff needs to be put together more than designing incredibly-complicated new stuff that takes DECADES.

    • Floyd Sweet already tapped into the Energy coming at us from the Universe in 1987, so of course that had to be stopped immediately because we first have to be a Type 1 than a Type 2.

As for this idea all these far advanced civilization just have to exist I beg to differ. Since we possess such high achieving intellectuals as Sweet, and before him Tesla and Einstein, and we're destroying ourselves, the ODDS are any other civilizations destroyed themselves long ago the same ways we are.

The absence of finding them is proof enough of that. Life that reaches beyond us is DEAD. Go author some comic books about how they have to be out there, in Deep Death.

They're as dead as all the dinosaurs are dead IF you accept the premise they ever were out there, which I do not. WHY?! Because at the distances involved had they existed and died we would be intercepting a lot of radio transmissions and so on. THERE'S NOTHING INCOMING, WHICH MEANS THEY NEVER EXISTED.

But we do exist, and every time a new man is born who violates the rules and advances too fast gets shoved under the proverbial rug til they can figure out how to piecemeal out his advances so they can keep wallowing around with naked women all day and all night long while children suffer and die for lack of those scientific advances.

Can't you post something a little less imaginary tripe?

I just solved the greatest engine mystery in 2600 years => the Wheel Within a Wheel penned by the Bible Prophet Ezekiel, and you're posting this garbage? How about posting who I'm supposed to contact to run around the lazy slime running this planet so we can HELP THOSE DYING, STARVING, FLY-EATEN, THIRSTING-TO-DEATH CHILDREN?

I think you are underestimating the size of our universe. There may well be transmissions(not radio...why would an advanced civilization use radio signals?) that we do not have the technology to intercept or it could just be that they are so ridiculously far away that their signals just haven't reached us yet. Look in the sky at night at the stars. Those are not real time images of stars your are seeing. Some may not even exists anymore. That is million(sometimes billion) year old light you are seeing. It takes an incomprehensible amount of time for anything to travel between galaxies.

At the speed we observe our own civilization advancing on the scientific-O-meter (exponential curve) we can safely assume IF THERE WAS SUCH A CIVILIZATION OUT THERE they would've advanced far beyond the speed of their own transmission evidence. They would be here scoping out the competition as a sheer matter of self-preservation.

They do not exist because if they did, and they were here, the sane choice would be to exterminate us. The vast majority of us live on the level of a cockroach and nothing more. We hump our women like bugs in a brier patch then brag about it to our fellow cockroaches. And we allow scum to run the house.

Scum that has poisoned us so that we would become so incredibly Weak & Sick we would be pathetically grabbing for every Soylent Green food chip they invent.

Such as how last November 2010 scientists at McMaster's University invented a process to turn human skin into blood cells. On the surface Hey!, that sounds GREAT, but why did they have do it IN THE FIRST PLACE if not because they had destroyed us down to a level where we needed them to do it?

Our fellow cockroaches have turned this world into their own private petri dish of fellow cockroaches, and they love listening to us cry out in AGONY. Tell ya what, go find one of those really large Bibles. I guess they're still around. The ones with all the artwork showing humans jammed together writhing in agony in hellfire.

Now tell me that isn't our condition right now. That condition has already been brought to pass. Another condition they caused was abortions of healthy babies, possibly 100,000,000 worldwide for the 20th century tally. The story they gave for Justification was so that by limiting the US population we would all have a HIGHER STANDARD OF LIVING; so where is it?

People butchered and essentially "ate their young" in order to have a more perfect union. They ate their young by sacrificing their little lives for a future the scum of Satan knew would never happen, never could they allow to happen, because if they ever delivered all the inventions they are presently HOARDING FROM YOU not only my own THEY KNOW THE BIBLE SCRIPTURE AT 1 THESSALONIANS 5 V 3 WOULD COME TO PASS ALSO, AND THEY CAN'T ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN.

So you can all cry and scream in agony some more now that you KNOW THIS TRUTH TO BE TRUE => your masters believe the Bible and live by its every WORD, to the Letter even including the spaces between the Bible's letters & words. Your lives are ruled by Bible Thumpers who work for Satan.

      Cockroaches get better.

It seems everything you say is based on assumption or your own opinion. Why, if there is other life, must they be aware of our existence? Again, you are severely underestimating the size of our universe. The rarity of planets that may harbor life coupled with the distance between them makes for a very unlikely chance of any advanced civilizations ever being aware of each other at all. I have evidence in the complexity I have found in 66 Bible books, a complexity of real Beauty, not imagined nor drummed into me by being mesmerized into a Carl Sagan cult hanging on the MAN'S EVERY EXHALATION (OPINIONS).

Gliese 581c has only one planet in the habitable zone and its star is only a red dwarf. How does finding one planet only slightly similar to Earth prove that no other life exists in the entire universe? Who the hell is Carl Sagan?

    • We could be living off free electricity if we would listen to Nikola Tesla. But nooo, that wouldn't let the energy cartels steal our money.

Nikola Tesla was a genuis. He also invented the first auto engine. If we had listened to him instead of Ford and Rockefeller, we may be driving electric cars and not dependent on oil.

Tesla knew how to make a craft powered by a lightning drive. I figured out how he made it work in the Fall of 2007.

3 and a half YEARS AGO. To say we are going at PLODDING SPEED is an overstatement.

    • We can not live in Space as we know it. Just as we can not live on the seafloor as we know it. We have a great place to live if folks would quit killing it. Let us not forget that We may not be as high on the food chain as we are now. I don't know for sure but I think we are pretty tastey.

The thin person who keeps his weight down begins consuming incoming viruses & bacteria as a Food Source. High quality actually, microscopic sushi.

But according to Michio Kaku we are a Type 0. Perhaps when we start farming viruses and bacteria out of the air we can stretch our legs a bit. But for now, not yet, not yet.

How is that cynical? This is how our society exists on this planet. We are parasitic. We live on our host, the Earth, consume its' resources and offer it no benefit in return.

      Parasite:
an animal or plant that lives in or on a host (another animal or plant); it obtains nourishment from the host without benefiting or killing the host

leech: a follower who hangs around a host (without benefit to the host) in hope of gain or advantage

Well i like being a type 0... lol. Really I agree with you, from a distance we do tend to act like an infection, but our ability to act subjectively, create art and beauty, love, etc. is pretty fantastic. Taking the far off approach "objective" approach which I see as Kaku's subjective lens (btw Kaku is brilliant), is thinking about a problem that is really conceptual in nature and far off from the real interpersonal and intercultural issues that actually affect real people everyday....just saying (btw I love playing devil's advocate)
