I got the best on the market when it comes to internet security, Cost me a small fortune. Starting up my computer takes a while but I got no problems while on line.

That's why I recommend a credit monitoring service and turn on email alerts to all of your credit accounts.
All of the creditors that I have, and I have a lot, all have credit monitoring facilities.
It's impossible to fully protect your computer.

Linux is an open source platform that is free and supported by tens of thousands of computer programers. It is a unix type platform. I use OpenSuse on one of my laptops and Ubuntu on my old desktop. Works great with older computers. Does not crash and is inherently safe from internet assholes. It has a graphic user interface, so it looks like windows. Down side is that gaming is limited. Upside, it's free, like the air you breath. In fact, after they start charging you for the air, Linux will still be free. You can set up a dual boot system for windows and linux. But I would recommend dedicating an old computer to linux. It works great on old computers that f-up with windows. Down with Microsoft. Up the revolution! Let me know how it goes.

I tell you what man- you try "going with linux", your computer wll be doing more than "weird shit". It is HARD, technical work and screwing around to get things going right. If you're really that worried about not being able cope with all the slings and arrows that net can throw at you then get a Mac.

no.... a mac uses intel cpu's just like most pc's the hardware is actually worse. the way apple works is they make osx for apple computers only and charge an arm and a leg as if its magical technology. sadly windows is more secure then mac, but linux is the most secure. like telcod said its just like an AK, reliable cheap and available everywhere.

Good advice - though it won't be too long before Mac OS and Linux are targeted just as hard as Windows OS - just a matter of market share and how the criminal hackers perceive the ROI in development. Also, some variants are popping up that are cross-platform - clever monkeys.

"...Apple now beginning to take a lion's share of the market."
Um...no. Outside of the US, apple does not have any meaningful share of the computer market. Apple makes its money now as it has replaced the record companies as the primary screwers of musicians. Outside of the US, apple is almost non-existent in many of the markets they seem prominent here in the US, such as phones, tablets, computers, etc.
Besides, as a Mac user, you don't want more people using a mac. The primary reason why there are not many viruses is because only about 7% of the global market uses them. Its akin to saying that Amish people don't get their identity stolen as much as regular people so we should all start churning our own butter. If more people were to use Macs, then there were be regular attacks, as oppose to now....were basically now no one even bothers.

Those numbers are changing fast.
More IT departments are letting their users/salespeople purchase Macs because guess what.
Users are demanding Macs.
Just like IE has the market share now, but we all know it's a matter of time.
Even Microsoft knows they are on life support, they are still in business because of their extensive legacy applications.

I use Macs myself. I have Windows boot camped on my iMac. As far as malware there are a few trojans out there for Macs but you have to type in an Admin password to let them install. The guys spreading them are using the usual website download type of infection method to get them on peoples machine. I believe one was spread over BitTorrent with infected iWork and Adobe downloads. These are mostly botnet trojans right now. There is a company called MacScan that usually has free cleaners for them. Mac OS X is pretty secure if you pay attention. No OS is totally bullet proof.

Any Mac user who denies this will happen is not living in the real world. I am the President of a Mac User Group in N. Cal. I tell my members all of the time to start preparing for it. It will come sooner or later. We have had it real good for years and malware writers are starting to take notice.
