They aren't planets! They are GIGANTIC spaceships!

most planets are free floating. planets form around single suns in the accretion disk but, as is usually the case, a sun will become captured by another and the planets will be sling shotted into the void.

there maybe more free floating planets than orbiting ones. planets are thought to form in the accretion disk of a forming sun and are locked in orbit by gravity. most stars become captured in the gravity of another star and slingshot their planets into the void.

Wait! Planets can't be "free-floating", can they? I mean, at least part of the definition of a planet is that it orbits a star, correct? Otherwise any rock in outer space is a planet, right? So then, are all the asteroids in the asteroid belt planets as well? Maybe I should've read the article first before freaking out, but I freaked out when they said Pluto was no longer a planet and now any rock in outer space might be called a planet? Oh boy, its true what they say: old people don't handle change very well.

yes the can be formed and break away and float about looking for a star to orbit. Some are gas giants some are asteroid like but are full plants.. IF on was to wonder into our group of worlds it would be hard to do anything about it .. but they most like would head for the outer gas giants..they have a large gravity field to attract something wondering into our solar system .

The "Rule of Thumb" in effect here, my man, is that if the free-floating body is in excess of Earth's Moon (size-wise) it's therefore called a "PLANET" => even without orbiting a sun. Fixed that for ya!
Every calculation revolves around HUMANS.

It's a size thing.
These free-floating planets are all much larger than pluto. I'd guess most of them are gas giants, in the size range of neptune and up.
All the little things floating around in our solar system (and there are lots of them) are dwarf planets, minor planets, planetoids and asteroids.
