In this video I talk about Amazon deforestation for GM soy, activism against GM potatoes, global resistance, Glyphosate effects in the US, Monsanto's appeal gets dismissed, and their market decline.
Thanks for the support here, and always treasure the seed, the root of all life.

Emucratic:
"Speeding up evolution" is not your place to do, and that is far from "nothing" where it concerns monoculture and biodiversity. But if you can prove your words, go to it. Nothing you state has even been proven yet. Matter of fact, it is the contrary. And as I mentioned, there are independent tests being done totally separate from "greedy companies" that are finding inherent fault with the technology irrespective of them. So again, before you call people narrowminded you might like to back it up. Oh, and everything you mentioned can be done through traditional breeding so stop trying to paint people as being against advances in humanity just because they don't tow the line on this pseudo scientific/corporate scheme to sell out to commerce. These are unnecessary in our food supply and the science is still too untested, unstable (horizontal gene transfer and this type of multi species DNA/virus/bacteria combinations) and dangerous for you to even make those claims with any guarantees or assurances, which then renders the precautionary principle to be totally relevant and necessary.

Food sovereignty. Satyagraha.
Belgium: NO GM crops on our fields!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYEN_tvqQaw&feature=relatedProtesters have destroyed a controversial GM field trial in Belgium.
In Wetteren, a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders, activists succeeded in damaging the GM potatoes being trialled for blight resistance, despite a large contingent of police officers who had been ordered to guard the GM trial. The officers were unable to stop the 300-400 or more peaceful protesters of all ages, who included local people.
During the protest organised by the Belgian Field Liberation Movement (FLM) - an informal collective consisting of farmers, scientists, consumers, and environmental activists, protesters climbed over a high fence and pulled up GM potato plants. The trial was also allegedly sprayed with herbicide. Some 40 people were arrested.
The non-violent direct action had been announced in advance with the FLM saying they planned to remove the GM potatoes and replant the field with non-GM blight resistant potatoes in a peaceful and public manner.
A sympathetic farmer was quoted as saying, "They [the GM lobby] talk a lot about farmers, but we are never heard. This type of action strengthens us and seems like the only way forward for consumers and small producers who are independent of powerful interest groups like big agribusiness. "

Kenyan Farmers Root For Organic
Naftali Mwaura
Africa Science News, 30 May 2011
http://www.africasciencenews.org/asns/index.php?option=com_content&task=view...
A coalition of small-scale farmers in Kenya has reignited the campaign against cultivation of genetically engineered crops while stressing that organic farming offers a sustainable path towards a food secure and ecologically healthy future.
The farmers challenged the government to recognize organic and other agro ecological farming practices in agriculture policies.
Advocates representing farmers, consumers and environmental groups fear that large scale production of genetically engineered crops will trigger health and environmental hazards while undermining Kenya’s food sovereignty.
President Mwai Kibaki signed the Biosafety Act in 2009 to pave way for cultivation of genetically altered crops as a means to attain food security.
Proponents of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) hail them as the solution to food scarcity against a backdrop of rising demand from a burgeoning young population.
Likewise, the proponents insist that genetically engineered crops can withstand vagaries of weather, as well as attacks from pests and diseases.
A federation of green advocates in Kenya however, urges caution and reiterates that Kenya can achieve food security status through organic farming.
Anne Maina, Advocacy Coordinator, African Biodiversity Network, noted that "the developers of GMOs have exerted great pressure to ensure that our recently enacted Biosafety Act of 2009 serves the interests of foreign Agribusiness, rather than farmers and consumers”.
She added that “introduction of patented seeds and related chemicals into our farming systems threatens our agricultural practices, our livelihoods, the environment, and undermines our seed sovereignty”.
Maina underscored the potential of organic and agro ecological farming practices to feed the nation without harming the environment.
“Our ability to feed Africa through agro ecological practices is recognized and supported by UN reports and broad scientific consensus”, said Maina.
She pointed at scientific evidence that show GMOs can cause serious damage to health, environment, food production and livelihoods.
Support for small scale farmers to have access to water and capacity building in organic farming is crucial to charting a new path to food security in the country.
______________Bill Gates and Big Ag should not have control over what African farmers choose to grow!
