NOTE ; I HAVE NO COMMENT OR OPINION TO MAKE ON THIS,....it is JUST "News about News". . . . . so if this gets "feedbacked",....well . . .
MORE from REUTERS -
David Bohrman, previously an executive at CNN, has been named the new president of Current TV, the network announced Monday.
Bohrman will begin immediately and work closely with Current's co-founders, chairman Al Gore and CEO Joel Hyatt.
Here's the release:
San Francisco, August 8, 2011 – Current TV, the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning television network, has appointed veteran broadcast and cable television executive David Bohrman as President. Bohrman, an award winning journalist and news executive who for three decades has helmed political and special event news coverage for major broadcast and cable networks, begins his new post immediately.
Bohrman, known for his unique combination of news programming and technical acumen, will work closely with the network’s co-founders, Current Chairman and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and CEO Joel Hyatt.
“Current’s mission has always been to shine a light on important issues, to spark debate and to speak truth to power. Earlier this year, we advanced this mission when we brought Keith Olbermann to Current and clearly stated our intent to be a truly independent, conflict-free, progressive voice in the news and political commentary arena,” said Mr. Gore. “David Bohrman passionately shares our vision. He has innovation in his DNA, and he has the unique qualifications and relationships to take Current to a whole new level in programming and production. I very much admire David’s excellent work, his integrity, his drive and his consistent track record of innovation. He will be a tremendous leader for Current, and Joel and I are proud to have David join us in this exciting venture.”
For the past decade, Bohrman was CNN’s senior vice president of programming and Washington, DC bureau chief, and in May of this year, he became CNN’s SVP and Chief Innovation Officer Worldwide. As Current’s President, he will be based in New York and San Francisco, and will oversee programming,

I’d like to see Keith play a cameo on Bar Karma. Yes Current! How about some diversification of programming to keep viewers more likely to not the change the channel? SO you got news, sci-fi original series (and spin-off?),a tech program, movie reviews (rotten tomatoes), a comedy original series ( what happened to supernews?), animated original series ( or short ?) a gaming show, the current ticker and phone booth back in Times Square (a la TRL) Vangaurd, and another real world drama show, sports-related reality show (based on actual sports statistics?) making it an interactive media channel. Keep Current current by staying ahead of the curve as you are the first to do the interactive show Bar Karma and that would be silly to throw that away considering how many filmmakers and webisodes are based on this new media. Maybe add a talk show to feature bands...isn’t Lil Wayne doing something like this? Diversify. Add special musical guests to play live on Countdown. Now that would be big. BIG! People who don’t like the to watch the news regularly might go to Countdown as their news source. Plus some of the guests Keith has interviewed already shows me that he likes putting actors with intelligent and passionate opinions on his show. Imagine, now, you put a songwriting Rock Star on the show. Woah, heavy dude.

I suggest you think about bringing back some good old fashion investigative journalism, like 60 minutes, to investigate the fraud that is causing so much waste. Wall Street Journal has started, but I see little elsewhere. We must all work together to bring our country back from the brink.

KurtLewin:
Suggest a tip line for investigating corruption and waste...one of my favorite examples, GSA, Government Services Administration, home of the Teapot Dome Scandal...take a gander at their job postings, esp. contract/ procurement jobs...now, if we ARE OUT OF MONEY, WHAT IN THE WORLD WILL THEY BE BUYING???
BEST EXAMPLE...one month before the Presidential election of 2000, the Human Resources Dept @ GSA took all their employees (who would soon be responsible for the change in administration in January) to Disneyworld!!!!!
Yup, check the records.... They didn't spend the money training employees for a smooth transition...which, as history shows, wasn't in the cards anyway....but the point is, this is how tax money is used in a bureaucracy that is self perpetuating, rewards silence and loyalty, and punishes whistle blowers...
So ya see, GSA didn't refuse to let Cheyney in because of the legal ambiguities associated with his blatant stealing of a pivotal election....they didn't let him in because they were hung over from partying in Disneyworld, and not prepared for what is supposed to be the one thing that sets America apart from much of the world...a peaceful transition of power...

It’s about the practical effectiveness of free speech and the free exchange of ideas and what has been happening to America over the past half century and the mess we are in today and why matters have come to this sorry pass.
It’s about the propaganda that passes itself off as news but is really 90% chemically pure bullshit, to quote Howard Beale. It’s about how the politicians and extremists and their masters, the financial elites, are raping us with their greed and the nonsense their media pour on us 24/7.
It’s about what we can do about it.NETWORK was a biting, hilarious, prophetic satire of empty minded entertainment mills masquerading as news programs chaired by pontificating talking heads, a biting indictment of an America heedlessly, destructively rushing to global dominance, recklessly driven by a totally out of control financial sector that
cares about nothing except about its bottom line and special privileges.http://www.networkcentralca.net/
(From Scene 99 - delivered with passion.)
I don't have to tell you things are bad.
Everybody knows things are bad. It's a
depression. Everybody's out of work or
scared of losing their job, the dollar buys
a nickel's worth, banks are going bust,
shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter,
punks are running wild in the streets, and
there's nobody anywhere who seems to
know what to do, and there's no end to it.
We know the air's unfit to breathe and our
food is unfit to eat, and we sit and watch
our tee-vees while some local newscaster
tells us today we had fifteen homicides and
sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the
way it's supposed to be. We all know things
are bad. Worse than bad. They're crazy.
It's like everything's going crazy. So we
don't go out any more. We sit in the house,
and slowly the world we live in gets smaller,
and all we ask is please, at least leave us
alone in our own living rooms. Let me
have my toaster and my tee-vee and my
hair-dryer and my steel-belted radials,
and I won't say anything, just leave us alone.
Well, I'm not going to leave you alone. I
want you to get mad --
* * *
I don't want you to riot. I don't want you to
protest. I don't want you to write your
congressmen. Because I wouldn't now what
to tell you to write. I don't know what to do
about the depression and the inflation and
the defense budget and the Russians and
crime in the street. All I know is first you
got to get mad. You've got to say: "I'm
mad as hell and I'm not going to take this
any more. I'm a human being, goddammit.
My life has value."
So I want you to get up now. I want you to
get out of your chairs and go to the window.
Right now. I want you to go to the window,
open it, and stick your head out and yell. I
want you to yell: "I'm mad as hell and I'm
not going to take this any more!" - 10 months ago

I do not want 24 hour commentary. I do not want 7 day a week commentary. How about entertainment during the day, repeated overnight. How about weekends with nothing but entertainment. Please do not overload me with new and commentary. Even I have to listen to music now and then just to decompress.
Yes, we need decompression time. Give back to the community, let the community control the weekends or late night TV. Otherwise we will all end up like Howard Beale, mad as hell, but crazy as a loon.

Will current become the new main stream ? Cnn was not known for taking risks .... What i would like , is to find things out that are not easily known ... to follow the history of a thing , so it is well understood , to expose the dark areas , to be a champion for the oppressed . . CNN may have done some fancy tech stuff , i would not know , but i hear rumors of it , and that is indeed cutting edge , but can he do what is needed most ?

From what I have read of his accomplishments and experience this is a positive move for Current. I suppose the political transformation will be solidified with his coming as well.
