As a candidate Obama stated GMOs should be labelled: time to speak up now as president

Four years ago Obama stated that GMOs need to be labelled because people have the right to know what they are eating. Since then as president however, nothing has happened and this has not even been mentioned. To the contrary, nothing but Monsanto insiders have been appointed by him with Monsanto and other bio.ag companies getting preferential treatment with no regulation of their products and no consumer disclosure. With more information coming out about the health dangers of GMOS and the reality of environmental/economic effects, it is imperative that Obama speak out on this as president when it matters most.

At the link you can tell Obama that GMOs need to be labelled now. It is time to stand up to the companies that use loopholes and vague references such as "substantial equivalence" to gain profit from these unnecessary untested organisms that threaten our health and environment.

I personally want to see them banned but until we can get momentum on that, labelling is the essential first step.

    • Obama is a chameleon. He gives a rousing speech, then does the opposite.Whether GM foods ;3 since he took office,The head of the USDA is a champion of GMOs.Obams goes to a plant, talks his employment program, then goes back to the White House, and signs a 3 country free trade treaty. This is what he does;say one thing do the opposite.

In the Occupy manifesto is a statement against debasing of our food.Food directly causes health of illness.

Obama is part of the problem,he is an example of how our government's 3 branches is captured.

      The people have the power!

Change can happen,it must come from the people, not the government.

    • Just to be clear, even though I fully endorse labeling, been crying for that since 2006 when I first learned about GMO's, but I agree fully with JanforGore, what really needs to happen is we ban them completely. I will take labeling as a first step in that process. Anything that will strengthen our food safety will help at this point. Believe me, knowing what you are buying is certainly better than what is going on in this country right now.

    • Obama is a phony. He will probably say if you vote for him a second time he will do something about labeling food that contains GMOs.

Considering this is an issue of democracy and he doesn't seem to be strong on civil liberties I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise. Which is why we need to keep his words front and center.

Oh Jan, don't get me wrong, I agree that we should put his words out there, just makes me mad because this is one issue that resonates strongly with many of us, and I feel we are being led along. Let us keep the pressure on him, but, there is no excuse for him to drag along on this, time to put the labels on.

Seriously? It is a Genetically modified organism. IN other words, scientist take a known organism (corn, soya, fish ect) and inject new gene sequences into its DNA in order to derive some benefit for the farmer or grower. Basically a Frankenfood

Yes, we need to ban these organisms now before they do any more damage to our biodiversity.Thankfully, much of the world is in agreement with that. It's getting beyond the corporate owned vipers here that is the challenge. That is why boycotting their seeds is important as a step for farmers. However, with Monsanto buying up all of it, they are left with little to no option. And of course, this is another important story gagged and blacked out by our media.
