Pesticide companies on trial: the people tell their stories

JanforGore
Miscarriages. Cancers. The loss of a job or an entire way of life. It's never easy to talk publicly about personal pain. That's why the stories of Vi, David, Juana, Mildre and Jeff are so powerful. In their own words, they talk about the harms that pesticides cause. On video, to millions of people.

Their point: ensure that someday, pesticide corporations are no longer above the law when it comes to our health, our economy and our well-being. Watch these extraordinary, brave individuals tell their truths.

This week, PAN International launches our 'people's trial' against the Big 6 pesticide corporations in Bangalore, India. People around the world are showing up and testifying. A jury will listen, confer and issue a verdict.

PAN's point: hold global pesticide corporations to account for damages done.

During the next seven days, join Vi, David, Juana, Mildre, Jeff and many others by watching the video, and sharing their stories with others through your own networks — by email, on facebook or twitter. Only together can we stand up and hold these corporations to account.

    • Jan,
I'm leaning towards the notion that they've taken Gecko's advice to heart "greed is good " but are too hooked to care, kinda like speed freaks who will kill for a fix!

    • Is it just because people see this as an Indian issue that only a handful of people have posted here...like Rape on the Reservation from Vanguard...people I talked with skipped that show...

If its poisoning them and their food chain...it is us too...and the Reps want to get rid of the EPA because it stands in the way of corporate profits.

We need to send this to The War Room as soon as it is up and running to see if the host will have any comment?

;-), I've been asking but getting no reply. Surely, she would decry the legacy of DOW, unless of course she still has some stock in the company. But as far as your comment about responding to this, I truly do not understand from my perspective why more people do not respond to what is happening to poison this planet and us. And it is happening in the womb before babies are even born! It is a crime and human rights abuse of such staggering proportions. These companies are guilty of killing biodiversity as well as the health of our water, our land, and us... and it will persist for years to come, which is truly insidious. If that isn't important I don't know what is.

I think its similar to the potable water problem in this country...people won't get concerned until they no longer have it; and then it will be the issue of the moment, a real concern.

I thought we were already past understanding the issue of poisoning the planet...damn, since the 60s...all the regression, politically, environmentally, economically etc. will soon choke us if we aren't careful, then nothing will matter...

    • EPA where were you? Why do we still allow companies to poison our earth? Why are the chemicals not banned until proven safe? What's in fracking fluid and how come we don't know?

I always think greed (which of course is part of this,) but now am beginning to wonder if these people are just hellbent on killing us for the hell of it. It's also a good way to control the populace to keep them in control.

    • Well, I wish them all the luck in the world winning their case. If you take a look at the magnitude of the chemical companies and how much poison they have spread around the world, it appears to me that we have not had much luck in stopping the production and use of these harmful chemicals, even agent orange is being used again in parts of the amazon to defoliate the jungle and it is killing and maiming the indigenous people. It makes me sick. Of course bp was able to use that chemical in the gulf to make the oil sink to the bottom of the gulf, nothing went away, it is still there, just down on floor of ocean, so not only do we have the harm presented by the oil, but add to it that Corexit and I think they used some bs excuse that we couldn't even be told what it was made of (trade secret bs) and that really is a line of crock. Well, like I said, I pray that these folks will get some justice and win their battle, it is always a hope of mine that the good guys will win. peace!

The people who are speaking (the second video at the link is a farmer talking about what Monsanto did to intimidate and harrass him) are speaking for all of us as we have all been touched and affected in some way by these poisons because they are so pervasive. Of course, this people's trial is not in a court of law because the law has been corrupted in favor of these chemical companies as well. I actually see this trial in Bangalore India as true justice, unvarnished by $$$$$ and influence. This is where we will hear the truth..This is where those of us who also lost loved ones to their cancers can find some justice.

    • Atrazine is the #1 grass herbicide in the US corn belt.It is in high enough levels in water samples to cause birth defects, and cancer among other problems. The National Corn Growers Association lobby in Washington keeps the upper hand against the EPA taking a stance against atrazine, despite the data.Whether harmful ag chemicals are banned or not is political, not a matter of health consequences. The EPA,FDA is captured by the corporations they are charged with regulating thx to 30 years of Reagan/corporate propaganda, and lobbyist cash to Congress.

Syngenta, a Swiss company makes Atrazine and it is BANNED in Switzerland and much of Europe. Guess what country buys it and exposes over a million people to its toxic effects every day? And this isn't important? Maybe it was in that morning coffee you drank.... or that shower you took ... or the powdered artificially flavored fruit drink you mixed for your child. Like DOW, Dupont and Monsanto, Syngenta knows this but continues to make it because the U.S. government provides the market because here CORPORATIONS RULE even over the health of you, your children and our water and food not to mention the effects on frogs, birds and other species. If you have ever lost a loved one to cancer or have a loved one who has cancer now, you bet this is important. These companies are literally getting away with murdering our biodiversity and us. And the media.... crickets.
