Romney: Scientists can figure out global warming 50 years from now

When asked about his views on climate change at a campaign event, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney replied that the earth might be getting warmer, but that his top priority as president would be to increase energy production in the United States.

“I’m not a scientist, so I don’t know the answer to these things,” he told the questioner. “I think the earth is getting warmer. May be wrong. I think we probably contribute something to it, but I don’t know if we contribute a little or a lot. And therefore, when I come to the policies I’d put in place, I do not support cap and trade policies, which raise the cost of energy.”

“Scientists will figure that out ten, twenty, fifty years from now,” he concluded. “But the right policy for me is, use our domestic sources of energy — including our renewables, and our gas, and our coal, and our nuclear, and our oil — and that’s the right course for America.”

In sharp contrast with Romney’s suggestion that the question of climate change can be deferred for another fifty years, however, the majority of scientists have already concluded that man-made global warming is real, has already contributed to an unprecedented number of climate disasters, and will be irreversible unless significant changes are made within the next decade.

    • A person who would sell out the future of America to satisfy personal ambition is not a person who should be president.

After the end of the Revolutionary War----George Washington was urged by many people to declare himself King. His popularity was so great that he would have had little trouble doing so. He was elected the first President of the United States by acclamation.

George Washington served two terms as president, and then, satisfied that the country could continue on its own---he left office.

George Washington placed the good of the country and its future above any desires he might have had for power or glory.

What we need now is people who will follow George Washington's example, and that of millions of veterans and patriots who sacrificed everything they had so that the United States of America would survive, endure and flourish.

We need Patriots. Patriots who are strong and true. Patriots who are brave and loyal. Patriots who will continue to stand up and fight no matter what the odds against them are. Patriots who will sacrifice their own comfort and desires to defend America----even defend America from evil that cloaks itself in the flag and feigns patriotism by waving symbols and shouting slogans.

Real Patriots do not give up. Real Patriots do not quit the fight or leave the field. Real Patriots give up anything and everything that is needed to win the fight.

Not all wars are fought with guns. And not all soldiers wear uniforms.

You will know the enemy, not by what he says, but by what he does.

    • Coal companies have opposed regulations concerning safety, pollution, and regulation for over 140 years. Where and when I grew up----the excuse was always that it would cause the loss of jobs.

Over 40 years ago, the cheap, easy to get coal ran out----so the coal companies pulled out. No jobs.

But there were still thousands upon thousands of acres of ruined land from strip mines going back to the 1890s. They routinely leached acids and other toxins into the watersheds causing floods, erosion and huge fish kills.

The coal companies refused to do anything about it because they were not required because there were no laws requiring them to, because passing a law requiring them to repair environmental damage would have cost jobs.

Well, the coal companies are gone. The jobs are gone. And the environmental damages are still there. Finally, there had to be a law passed placing a sales tax fund of 1 1/4% passed for conservation and environmental repair. Most of the money spent from the fund is not spent to improve wildlife or habitat-----most of the money is spent to repair damage already done.

We need a tax on coal, petroleum and fossil natural gas to provide an escrow to repair damages in the future from damage they do now. Not at taxpayer expense. Let the people who use the coal, oil, and fossil natural gas pay for the environmental damage they cause-----pay for it now and put it into an escrow fund. Managed investment funds to be invested in renewable energy sources not accessible to politicians. Let any profits derived above a certain percentage go to reduce taxes.

Maintain the escrow for as long as needed.

Let the people who want to use fossil fuels pay the true cost of using fossil fuels. Let the people who use renewable energy benefit from not damaging the environment.

    • Seems we all at some point think we can kick the can down the road... here's a little reminder for you Mr. Romney and everyone who thinks our environment is just part of some political game...that life is just a game. Mr. Romney and the lot of these politicians should get on their hands and knees and run their fingers through the soil, the skin of this Earth. It just might give them some humility!

    • JanforGore:

You're witnessing a substrata of desire that flows very close to the surface Jan. This "substrata" is in motion and no matter what they tell you from their CONSCIOUS MIND that flaps their lips their sub-conscious mind is really pulling for The End to happen.

The subconscious is more powerful than the conscious mind and it overrules the conscious any time it wants. They'll tell you with the straightest Poker face ever was they want to fix the Weather, they want to fix the Planet, they want to Reform Health Care, when in fact they really deep down desire to see the pillars in the temple being pulled down by the blinded Samson.

They are conflicted and compromised. They will appear to be your friends & your benefactors but just under the surface they are undermining every effort anyone makes to do so. THEY WANT THE END TO COME.

IT SUPPLIES THEM VICARIOUS EXCITEMENT OF THEIR SENSES. It has become to them their Rollerball, watching Arnold sliding down the chute to his death in Running Man. It's their chance to be Sly Stallone being beat to a pulp in the ring and then rising back up to be The Victor against all odds.

Well Jan, you can't rise back up until the beating is over. No matter how many people die, drown, get shoved over a bank in a bus, washed away in a freak tsunami no one saw coming, or a new Fukushima meltdown replete with officials lying through their teeth saying it isn't so bad.

This isn't a fight against Weather or Global Warming it's a fight against people who are not the people you see, it's against the people inside you can't see. The "animal brain" that gets what it wants no matter what conscious veneer is outside.

They want resolution. They want the book of Revelation to finish, all the prophecies of every civilization that has ever existed to go to exhaustion. This is a ride that only has one Outcome and nothing you do being just one person is going to alter it. Resolution Jan, a force that demands to be satisfied.

That's why all your "conferences" are failing. It's like watching History replay at treaties made with Indians or treaties made after World War I which were all nice conscious paper agreements that lasted until the super powerful subconscious determined NOW IS THE TIME TO STRIKE.

People want to see Jesus. They want to see him ride in on the clouds and defeat Satan and his buddies the demon angels. They want to see the winds unleashed by the four angels. Much the same way people keep sending military technologies to the enemies. Your efforts Jan they are valiant but your cause is lost to the hordes who are working against you to make you lose.

I strongly advise switching horses whil you have time remaining. The one you are riding is a wasted Pony Express. Accept a free Home Bible Study and find out why I know what's really about to happen... This train is about to crash. Jesus mentioned one last sign. It has been fulfilled. We could be talking days now Jan... and no matter how much harder you whip your horse it's finished. It is so finished it is BEGGING TO DIE.

Your Loyalty of spirit is admirable and your struggle one to mirror in a struggle that had a chance. You have chosen to do battle against an immovalble object and you are not an irresistible force. THE SMART PERSON KNOWS WHEN TO ADMIT THE SHIP'S HULL IS RIPPED AND SHE'S GOING DOWN.

Actually if you look at the numbers greenhouse gasses are on a almost exponential rise with no slowing in sight add to that the fact that even if the whole planet changed its ways tomorrow it would take decades for current levels to drop and it will be too late so its too late now...

    • Johnny_Los_Angeles:

If the rest of the world followed China's lead and started planting billions of trees every year we could stabilize atmospheric carbon within a decade. It has recently been found that temperate and boreal forests are just as important in removing CO2 as tropical rainforests. One young, fast growing tree can remove over 50 pounds of CO2 from the air each year. It would take less than a trillion new trees to 'transpire' the carbon we add to the air every year.
Bamboo is even better because it's so fast growing and converts carbon into silica through photosynthesis. Also if farmers converted their chaff into biochar it would significantly reduce atmosheric CO2.
So don't buy the lie that there is nothing you and I can do.

    • Mormons are very good singers. Strong in their Faith. A politician Romney's age brings to the White House a 60-year-old Knowledge Baggage er Package worthy of full faith.

The preponderance of human knowledge says ELECT THE OLD MEN. Older Men are Wise Men, the wisest their generation could produce, and it is precisely that Wisdom that is embodied in a politician like Mitt Romney!!!

So my fellow Americans the die has been cast and the smart money is on the Wise Men of Washington DC. Thou shalt NOT go against the tried and true wisdom that served your forefathers & foremothers so exceeding well. You must Stay the Course and BE STRONG in the face of modern adversity. Remember my friends =>

THIS TOO SHALL PASS AND WE WILL ALL SIP DOWN SOME OF THE EL RUSHBO'S TEA BAGS AND LAUGH [FROM THE TOP OF OUR PYRAMIDS, ONE DAY]. NEVER FORGET!!! ALL CAN HAVE AND ENJOY THE AMERICAN DREAM.

IF I CAN DO IT WITH FUELLESS STEAM ENGINES AND PHYSICS LAWS ENGINES THAT GENERATE MORE POWER THAN THEY USE THEN SO CAN YOU!!! WE ARE BECOME THE TESLA NOW BABY.

JOIN ME JOR-EL & FORGET THAT FOOLISHNESS OF LAUNCHING SPACESHIPS. WE HAVE REACHED THE CRESCENDO OF OUR CIVILIZATION AND NOTHING WILL EVER MAKE US LEAVE TARA AGAIN.

    • I'm not a politician
      But mitt is right
      He is no scientist

If he doesn't say he's going to put a climate scientist on his advisory council
      Then
      He isn't just a politician
He a dangerously stupid idiot politician
      And
Unelectable for not being aware of what it takes to be a good administrator

      * I'm being nice when I say dangerously stupid idiot

    • ----------" “I’m not a scientist, so I don’t know the answer to these things,” he told the questioner. “I think the earth is getting warmer. May be wrong. I think we probably contribute something to it, but I don’t know if we contribute a little or a lot. And therefore, when I come to the policies I’d put in place, I do not support cap and trade policies, which raise the cost of energy.”--------

Seems to me like a kind of round about, wordy way of saying, "Vote for me because I am an idiot."

    • Man KB you sure have been busy since you got back...:)...what still amazes me about a lot of their short sightedness is that they don't seem to think there will be a day of reckoning, and when it comes to the environment, what I'm reading makes me really nervous...when will it be too late for those political asses who continue to live in denial on almost every issue that has potentially bad outcomes...economy, environment, democracy etc etc...

Wrong. Scientists had figured it out thirty years ago when the first solar panels were on the White House.

    • They will not have to "figure out global warming" if we stay on the same course. The planet will be dead, or at least close enough to it that it will be impossible to revive. So much for leaving a healthy environment for our descendents.

I think that's what he means?? Guess he doesn't give a straw about his Kids or Grand kids.
In the meantime, use as much Oil and Coal as possible, Politicians need the money.

I often wonder how I could make the same statement. I would have to be honest and say that, yes, I am scientist, but... it doesn't follow that a scientist will know the answer to every question, and if I did, would that influence anyone's decision anyhow?
