Saladin, interesting comment. I am personally unaware how old this person is, but I didn't think the message was about what you should or shouldn't do, but more about how the media tries to dictate to women about their bodies. I saw nothing in this article that addressed moral ultimatums and codes. Sounds like your comment was meant to be personal.

Dylan50:
The whole thing, part one and part two, reeks of useless moralizing and self-righteous nonsense.
You're right, she doesn't directly come out and say "you should do this." But if you spend an entire article talking about how wrong something is and how superior your way is, isn't that almost exactly the same thing?
You don't have to tell someone to do something to be lecturing them about your moral code. And when someone spends the first article claiming to be pro-life and lambasting teen moms for not having any self-respect and the second article making up fake reasons why shaving your junk is ridiculous, what else am I left to conclude?
I guess the thing that really bothers me is that this is moralizing disguised as commentary.
Think about it, if you look at her positions on their merits, "teen moms are irresponsible and have no self-respect," or "shaving your junk is wrong," they're kind of retarded and short-sighted. And they wouldn't be given nearly as much credence if she didn't dance around the point so much, which I think is kind of insidious.
Also, it has little or nothing to do with "empowerment." Most of this stuff is shame based.

I guess we each came out with something different from the article. I didn't see it the way you describe it at all. I see no shame base at all, in fact there should be no shame in taking care of our bodies and being responsible. I also, would not have used the word., "Retarded" as you have, but we are all entitled to our opinions and I will respect yours. Have a good day and thanks for responding.

That is certainly part one ... part two , not so sure . She asks a lot of good questions in those parts . It is just when she answers them for everyone in part one , it was off putting . HER described world it too idealized to be realistic . She was not so much empowering the vagina , as blaming it for the situation . Blame the victim mentality is common is certain persons .

The reason I lump the second one into the same category is that its supporting arguments are either provably wrong or similarly insidious.
An example, when she said that pubic hair evolved to catch dirt and sweat and hormones, that's not actually a point in its favor. In fact, scientists actually have no idea why we have pubic hair because human beings are not provably aroused by dirty junk. But she doesn't mention that, she instead uses at a sort of subtle argument about it being "natural."
So you're made to feel wrong about shaving when nothing is really wrong with it at all. It's no more a "media pressure" than wearing deodorant or glasses is. It's a social preference.
I could go on, but the point is that the whole thing is this veiled attempt at shaming people into her way of doing things, which has no particular morality or advantage to it at all.
And calling it empowering, when, like you said, it's really victimizing, is just wrong.

Very good observation , you are correct in that assessment ! She must be very insecure to put down her sisters like that .

I bit my tongue through part one, but now this is just getting stupid.
Next she'll be telling us real women don't shave their armpits either and that men who don't like it are afraid of her musky power.
What is it about middle-aged people and their insistence on personal moral ultimatums and codes? Unless you're willing to receive the same criticism you dish out, just be quiet and let people live their lives.

p.s. - Yes,....in general,....it is safe to say that f-ing ADVERTISERS should NOT be allowed to make social policy ! Certainly not by a default response initiated by SHEER REPETITION.
I personally am a MAVERICK ! ( my penis is sheathed daily in an industrial grade lanolin dip,.....stays fresh and crispy longer !

No worries here. I only lightly trim but keep most of the natural carpet. I take baths with a 1/2 cup of vinegar to keep my PH in check. I never bought into sprays or any of the other BS. They are bad news and can cause infection. I also wear only white cotton panties to wick away moisture.
