I AM FOR A FREE AND OPEN INTERNET.
DO you hear us, Congress?
Stand together today as a community and as a country and oppose PIPA and demand SOPA be left dead and not in a coma. Our freedom of expression, creativity and free speech are being threatened by those with the power and money to shut the Internet down to protect their own profits.
The Internet is the peoples' agora. KEEP IT FREE!
I will only be posting about PIPA today and voting all posts about it UP.
Please vote this up!

Will everyone keep hitting SOPA, PIPA down each time some legislator tries to sneak in a resurrection for them or renames them, or otherwise sneak them in, for example, some defense authorization bill etc.? ?

I think both Dems and Republicans hate these bills and have let the congress know they hate it and will vote them out if they pass these bills. From what I have witnessed today both sides are pissed about this Corporate take over of the Internet.

And where do you see oppositon to that being addressed? It should be punishment of the guilty but not at the expense of everyone else's freedom. These bills do not accomplish that.

I know it doesn't address these particular bills which do not adequately address the protection of all of our freedom to use the Internet. Are you condemning people for speaking out against censorship? Perhaps you need to actually read the bills and the context behind all of this.

Congress indeed has a balancing act to perform in crafting a bill that punishes the guilty while respecting the rights of the innocent. SOPA and PIPA are not those bills.

The Democrats are as upset about criticisms aimed at them from the bloggers as the slimy Republicans are. That is at the heart of the two proposed bills, shutting us up. We can't let this happen. If they pull it off it's time to take everything outdoors as our collective backs will then be to the wall. And, judging my "Mr. Compromise's" past actions, (Obama), we can't believe anything he says. These days Democrats are Republicans in sheep's clothing anyway, for the most part. Be prepared for a very "exciting" spring. I can just see the politicians shooting themselves in the foot with this one. It will backfire on them, to be sure, and it will be the final straw for many who are sitting on the sidelines now. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

But, my point is, it might get worse before it gets better, hang in there like a Wisconsinite. They know how to keep their eyes on the prize. Just ask Scott Walker, who is looking down the nose of the recall gun. One way or the other, we will get our internet back, (if it goes away), or there will be hell to pay.

Yes, we have to get it together, and this is a unique opportunity to unite people of all colors and ethnic backgrounds under the banner of the 99%. We have more in common than we have in differences. It's about time the working class wised up and stopped playing competitive games. The people on top have it in mind to grab everything. It is up to us to stop them.

Did read somewhere here on current yesterday that SOPA was already dead in that Cantor said it won't be brought to the floor for a bill? If so, that's at least half the battle. Now if we can get the Senate to do right by the people......

Great video, Jan! I stand with the participants in this video, too. The interent is our last place for true, free speech. Michael Moore went dark today. Here's the letter I got in my e-mail. I agree with his reasons why Congress wants to shut down the internet.
"STOP SOPA: Why MichaelMoore.com Will Be Blacked Out Wednesday, January 18th ...a note from Michael Moore
Tuesday, January 17th, 2012
Friends,
My websites MichaelMoore.com and Mike's High School Newspaper will both be going dark for 24 hours starting at midnight tonight in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act now before Congress. I'm proud to join with Wikipedia, Reddit, Boing Boing and thousands of websites in this action to raise awareness of this huge threat to an open internet.
I think we all knew that the powers-that-be would eventually try to kill the world wide web as we've come to know and love it. I'm sure it's just an accident that these bills are being proposed after a year where uprisings around the world were literally started on the internet. This is a scary device to those in power and I'm sure they rue the day they allowed us to talk freely to each other. They weren't thinking about the revolution that would cause -- they just saw it as a way to sell more stuff. Oops. And now they want to rein it in.
Please take the time to learn about SOPA (and its twin Senate bill, PIPA) and then call AND fax AND email your Representative and Senators tomorrow. Let's melt their phone lines and computers. We've got to use the internet while we still can to organize, fight back and stop this.
The good news is the Obama administration says it doesn't support the bills in their current form (but he said that about the National Defense Authorization Act -- and then went ahead and signed it after changes that still left its most dangerous provisions intact).
We can win this. But we've got to pour it on right now. I'll see you on the other side tomorrow night at midnight! "
Yours,
Michael Moore

Don't you just love it when politicians always add that phrase, "in its current form." Just more doubletalk masking that they really support it.
