A series of marches, rallies and vigils are planned throughout the week as the group expresses their concerns over herbicide use, production of GMO products, and arguments of impacts on small farmers.
An event flyer makes claims of food supply control, government manipulation and environmental poisons.
Monsanto Hawaii Community Affairs Director, Paul Koehler responded to the planned demonstrations saying that while the company respects everyone's right to voice their opinion, he said, "It's unfortunate that a number of misleading and factually incorrect statements about Monsanto and genetically engineered crops continue to circulate."

Koehler said Monsanto Hawaii is working with the Police Department to ensure safety of all during the planned Occupy events. "Our number one concern," he said, "is for the safety of everyone involved, including that of drivers passing by on the highway, pedestrians, our employees and the demonstrators."

My thanks to those who went there to speak for our food safety.
Their totally useless drought resistant corn is now approved, and DOW'S Agent Orange corn is also up for approval... Hmm, maybe I should send some to Ms Granholm to welcome her to Current since she is hiding from questions about this so as not to spoil her "fun" here.

I've been looking for news about their meeting and the demonstration but haven't seen any as of yet. Not surprising. Hopefully those there weren't carried off under the NDAA act. If I find anything today I will post it in this thread.

I notice their last concern is for the welfare of demonstrators, and that factually incorrect and vague statements from Monsanto about genetically engineered crops continue to circulate. Really, what is the point of corn that is inedible and only with processing can additives be extracted from it? Perhaps increasing the domination over what farmers can grow, boosting profits and further increasing Monasanto's own financial security? You could quite literally starve to death while surrounded by such genetically modified corn and I kind of thought the marketing pitch claimed such technologies were aimed at helping feed the world, not stiffen shirts and pompous attitudes.
"We have secured another market sir!"
"Oh, la di da, fantastic, some more starch for your shirt Geeves, la di da."
"Yes fantastic indeed sir, another a cup of tea sir?"
"As long as it's not genetically modified Geeves."
"Well sir, that would be hard to ascertain sir. You see their is still no mandatory GMO labelling sir." - 4 months ago

This is one example of how Monsanto, "works with police departments." Today is their annual meeting in St Louis and there will be a demonstration. I will try to keep an eye on what happens...
Resistance and Counter-Terrorism in St Louis
Glenn Davis Stone
Extracted from: Genetically Modified Crops: From St Louis to India
http://www.anthropology-news.org/index.php/2012/01/06/genetically-modified-crops...In 2003 St Louis hosted the agribusiness-friendly World Agricultural Forum, prompting activists and scholars to plan a "Biodevastation" counter-conference across town. Advised by the FBI Counter-terrorism office, which had been egged on by Monsanto (FBI 2003, "Memo to Counterterrorism branch St Louis re: World Agricultural Forum," by FOIA request), city police arrested and detained would-be conference participants on charges later admitted to be baseless.
Here [in the picture] Ignacio Chapela (UC Berkeley), John Peck (Family Farm Defenders) and Jesse Reynolds (Students for Responsible Research) give presentations on effects of biotechnology on industry-academy relations. The empty chair was for speaker Sarah Bantz (Missouri Resistance Against Genetic Engineering) who had been arrested and jailed for allegedly driving with an unfastened seatbelt and for carrying Vitamin C pills.
The police had also arrested and detained members of an anti-GM group for bicycling without a license (a non-existent law in a city that does not issue bicycle licenses). Police also forced their way into a house where conferees were staying, claimed a box of roofing nails to be a weapon, slashed bicycle tires, removed artwork, submitted a woman to a strip search, urinated on the inhabitants’ clothing, and made arrests for inhabiting a condemned building (which had just been condemned by an inspector who came with the police).
The St Louis Police fought an ACLU [American Civil Liberties Union] lawsuit for six years before issuing an apology and paying monetary damages (Ratcliffe 2009, "City police apologize for raids in 2003," St Louis Post-Dispatch, 25 Aug). Spring 2003. Photo courtesy Glenn Davis Stone
