OLED Solar Sunroofs Coming to a Car Near You

Last year, Daimler introduced a concept car called the Smart Forvision. All electric, the Forvision had some interesting gee-whiz features, including a solar-paneled roof that combined the energy gathering effects of transparent solar panels with OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) lighting.

Daimler had worked with BASF to create the Forvision's design, including the see-through solar roof. Now BASF and Philips have announced that they've made a breakthrough in actually bringing the lighting technology to life.

The two companies have succeeded in sandwiching transparent solar panels with transparent OLED cells, so that a car roof can be covered with a structure that lets in daylight for drivers, and turns opaque when switched on, allowing for diffuse lighting from the ceiling at night, all powered by the solar panels.

    • Whew. I do not like the looks of that car, and the name "Daimler" I don't like either. I guess it sounds too phonetically close to to the Dahmer guy who murdered people. I suggest a name change to vastly increase sales.

Perhaps if the color of the top was a nice sky blue instead of kitchen skillet bronze. I have too many pots with that color, reminds me of washing dishes too much.

This car looks so dang Generic I can't stand it. It lacks racy, it lacks sexy, it lacks everything people buy a car for. It's like a little Black Hole.

And the wheels suck rotten eggs, altho I don't know why, they just do. Perhaps the entire package looks to TOY-LIKE, and I don't care to drive a toy car down the highway. I wouldn't want one if you gave it to me, and I need another car badly.

It lacks PRESENCE. It isn't aesthetic. But, I guess since I don't care anything for it there's likely a significant number in the population who will love it.

But I would still seriously consider changing the name instead of staying loyal to the family crest forever and a day.

The contrast of bronze and light shade blue I guess that is might make such an offensive statement to other drivers they would recoil away, making it a very seldom accident for its Buyers......

A big Batman insignia on the front and a small one on the back might look right Cool. A lot of people (Baby Boomer generation) probably miss Batman. If you expanded the take-off on Batman to include taillight lenses.... Hmm. If it goes over (sells good) you might want to do a Catwoman car also.

Make sure to Copyright the designs, Trademark, & ESPECIALLY DESIGN PATENTS; otherwise others would flood the market and sales would plummet from toooooooooo many copies (stealing its uniqueness value), turning it into another flash in the pan fad of yesteryear.

      YESTERYEAR?
      LONE RANGER CAR!
      CLAYTON MOORE YEAH!

HA HA. But no one ever follows my suggestions. I suggested over 10 years ago to bring back many of the old 1950's designs with the new engines and all. See where that got. Detroit never listens to anybody but people inside their own little commune.
